We live on ************* and our side of Greenville loses power at least once a month. Its odd to me, because in the years since I moved to Greenville, this is the first neighborhood where I am CONSTANTLY losing power. It just so happens that I have a lower income and live in a more diverse neighborhood than I ever had before. It is very obvious that GUC is not worried about its lower income or minority customers. When you call to express these issues, they clearly do not care. Many people in our cul de sac work from home. This interferes with my work CONSTANTLY and it takes so long for power to be restored. I will be writing a letter to my representatives about this as well. Id also like to note that Ive lived in multiple cities in the ** and the utilities rates are higher here than any place Ive ever lived and I get (by far) the WORST service Ive ever had. One of the main reasons I am saving money to move away from Greenville is GUC. And yes, I will be expressing that sentiment to my representatives.

According to our outage management system, this customer has had 2 outages and 2 momentary outages in the last 12 months.

12/16/24 Transformer fire on ***************** caused an outage of 1 hour and 6 minutes.  5:05 PM

10/4/24 Momentary outage for 1 second 7:58 AM

7/22/24 Momentary outage for 2 seconds 9:55 PM

1/9/24 Storm caused widespread outages.  The duration of this outage was 1 hour and nine minutes. 7:45 PM

Recent rate analysis shows GUC has rates that are at or below the median for utilities in the State of ***************  In fact, our electric rates are 15% lower than Duke Energy.  The location of this complaint has Electric, Water, Sewer, Storm Water, and Refuse charges. Some customers with multiple services mistakenly compare our full-service utility bill with other locations that only bill for electric services.

I'm going to give them zero stars because they have no consideration for their customers. They continually add extra fees to your monthly bill, however they do not work with you in anyway, shape or form. They also give a false hope of enrolling in the budget billing program but the criteria to be enrolled in the program is impossible to adhere to . I have been a customer of ***************************************** for 7 years and with the inflation of the economy you would think that your utility company would have more compassion for its consumers given that having running water and working electricity is a necessity . I have gotten assistance from a local agency in ************** and they will not accept a promissory note from them . So i'll have to find other means if possible to pay my bill by Monday the 10/2/23 or me and my children will be in the dark, and i currently work from home so i'll be unable to work!! They also informed me that due to me having two return checks within three months , even though the bill was paid days later that i no longer qualify for an extension for the next six months!! DUKE ENERGY puts GREENVILLE UTILITIES COMMISSION to shame I want to move out of Pitt County because of this company alone !!! This is just the beginning of my complaints for this company im also taking this the state board me and a few other customers because it's sickening the way their operating their business and treating their customers.!!

While we do not know the circumstances of the customer that left that review, we do recognize the financial difficulties challenges faced by many of our customers. Therefore, we have programs and assistance available to help these customers. We have a long track record of engaging community support to assist our customers. We work with several agencies including the ********** of **************** *************** Vocational Rehab, Catholic Charities, ***************************************, St. ***************************** Society, Cornerstone ************************** and Anointed Ones who provide financial assistance to customers in need. These agencies contact us daily to provide verbal pledges that are noted on the account and immediately reduce the amount a customer would need to pay. *********************** Neighbor to Neighbor program has provided over $750,000 in heating assistance to low-income households in Pitt County over the past 20 years. Greenville Utilities billing and collections processes affords customers upwards of 45 days to pay a bill. In instances where this is not sufficient time, we allow an additional four payment extensions of another 10 days over the course of a year. Furthermore, we attempt to keep our customers informed of past due amounts that they face, by initiating both a mailed notice along with an emailed notice. As we benchmark against other utilities, we find this amount of time, collection processes, and extension policies to be more customer friendly than most in our industry. More importantly, we have maintained some of the lowest electric, water, and sewer rates across all of **************. In fact, we have not raised, but lowered our electric rate over the last few years. Our customers are paying 14% lower rates now than they were 10 years ago. Our recent rate comparisons show our electric rates more than 20% lower than *********** Progress for a typical residential customer. These lower rates translate into lower bills for our customers when compared with other utilities which are helpful, especially to those customers facing financial difficulties. Locally owned, means all the money customers pay stays local creating jobs and helping our local economy. It also means we are customer owned and our Board of *********************** is made up from local residents, who are also customers. It is this Board of Commissioners that sets rates and policies and overall our customers appreciate the service we provide as shown by our latest customer satisfaction survey which showed that 80% of our customer base is extremely satisfied with the services we provide.

This company will rob you without a gun, it’s very sickening to see a company that keeps raising the cost of electricity every month smh!!

Greenville Utilities has not raised electric rates since 2013. Customer bills are typically higher in the Winter as customers use more energy to heat their homes.
