Book Broker *** ***** called me August ********************************************************************** Strand Book Store for retail sale with a guaranteed initial purchase of 200 copies. He convinced me that ***************** would only accept his offer on my behalf if I pay $3000,00 for ************** to a third-party company named Ink Start Media. At this time I though *** ***** was just an independent book broker, but later learned he is somehow affiliated with Ink Start Media. By his recommendation, I paid the amount of $3000 to Ink Start Media August 21, 2024. On the original sales receipt when I made the ******* payment was based on a $******* lifetime Insurance policy only and initial order of 200 copies of my book by Strand Book Store retail outlets. Even had they done any cover design, it is stipulated this service is free. On December 26, 2024 I finally spoke to someone identifying himself as Vice President of Ink Start Media. In a recorded conversation that I have on file he admitted that my payment of ******* for ************** for only so that Strand Book Store would order my books. I received a letter this morning from Mr. **** **** with Strand Book Store to avoid doing business with this company because they were on their list of companies doing Scam proposals using the name and reputation of Strand Book Store. And that they did not have any such requirement as third-party book insurance policy. I verified that Ink Start Media is indeed on a Scam Alert list. Further to this my original communications with Ink Start Media shows logo of Better Business, but later communications do not show Better Business logo. Since this company cannot guarantee a book order of 200 copies of my book by Strand Book Store as I was promised and proof of a lifetime book insurance policy then I want my $******* investment returned. Dear BBB,
I am writing in response to the allegations made against our company, specifically regarding Mr. ******* *****, the author of Reflections in a Paper Moon Book One: Chased by the Dragon.
We would like to clarify that our company is fully registered and operates with the utmost transparency. We maintain a business account with ***************, one of the largest and most reputable banks in the country. As such, we find it deeply concerning that such allegations would be made, as they imply that we are a fraudulent organization. We can assure you that we are committed to providing the highest level of service and satisfaction to all our clients.
Additionally, we would like to address the accusation that Mr. *** ***** is somehow affiliated with our company, Ink Start Media. Please be advised that Mr. ***** has never been employed or associated with our organization in any capacity. If the author has evidence to substantiate these allegations, we would appreciate receiving that information. Otherwise, we reserve the right to pursue legal action to protect our companys reputation, which has been unfairly tarnished by these claims.
Moreover, we have sent Mr. ******* a detailed service agreement, which he signed and returned to us, confirming his acceptance of the Book Store Return Policy and the services we are providing. We have also provided all necessary documentation to ensure the agreed-upon services were fulfilled to his satisfaction.
We are more than willing to provide any additional information or clarification if required. We trust that this matter can be resolved promptly and amicably.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. We look forward to your response.Customer Answer

I am rejecting this response because: Ink Start Media has made legal threats against me personally, while refusing to address any of the evidence I have supplied, particularly the allegations made by Mr. **** *******, *********************** of Strand Book Store Fraud department. Secondly, **** ***** claims there is no affiliation with *** ***** Book Broker. Yet, it is *** ***** that called me with the Strand Book Store Discussion clearly indicating that Ink Start Media have a relationship of some kind. And within minutes after I agreed to this opportunity Ink Start Finance called me to accept payment of $3000.00, paid directly to Ink Start Media, and no one else. Either this company is unprofessional or else Fraudulent as indicated my Mr. ****** *********** All I know is that I paid $3000.00 and have nothing to show for it, except a piece of paper that Strand Book Store does not recognize, nor will accept.
Below is a response letter I made to Mr. ***** after he sent me a threatening email last Friday. I had reached out to the company Ink Start Media with a proposal to try and fit their proposed business model in order to avoid a lengthy legal procedure. Instead of reciprocal communication he sent me a letter as though he and his company the victim. I paid them $3000.00 for a service based on the first communication sent to me by Mr. *** ************ That attachment names Ink Start Media by name, as well as Strand Book Store. After I agreed *** ***** then had Ink Start Media call me direct so that I can pay the $3000.00. The company Ink Start Media never communicated with me directly again until late November. To date they have provided me with no services that I know how to execute. As publisher of my own books I have contacted ****************************************, the company where I publish my books, as well as Strand Book Store. I am informed that no 3rd party return book insurance policy accepted by ************* Strand Book Store has directly communicated that if a book return policy were to exist it would be between said insurer (Ink Start Media) and bookstore (Strand Book Store). I have requested information how they intend to use said book insurance policy. As from the beginning I am met with silence.
My Letter Response to **** ******* letter of legal threat against me:
March 14, 2025
Without Prejudice
Note: If you require more details I can attach them by separate email
Mr. *****
In response to your email received today, please take note that I have never personally suggested your company not legitimate. However, I think you are either unaware of the facts, or choose to ignore the evidence supplied by other parties. First, it is *** ***** that introduced me to your company under the pretense that Strand Book Store required a book to be insured for the book placement in their chain to move forward. Printed on the original invoice the day I paid Ink Start Media $3000.00 it states clearly ******************* Publication Free."
It took me a few weeks to finish my editing of my book Reflections in a Paper Moon Volumes One and Two. When my file were ready in early September I reached out to your company to discuss how we might proceed, since I already had assigned ISBN numbers for the two volumes of my book. I was met with silence. No one returned my emails, not did anyone respond to numerous messages left on Ink Start Media's answering service. Therefore, on September 8, 2024 I send a cancellation of service asking for money back. Again no one responded back. I have no emails from your company from September to December except for the sales invoice agreement and a contract of services to be rendered which I must have inadvertently agreed to under pressure from *** ************
When your company did not respond to the cancellation letter then I contacted my credit card company and ked to have the charge of $3000.00 paid to Ink Start Media on the bases that at that point in time you had provided me with no services.
It was later relayed to me that your company had created a book cover according to my instructions and had begun work on the book. This is not true. The book cover someone associated with your company sent as proof is based on the cover idea of the previous publication made by Page ****************** and Media company in 2022. That one was based on artwork supplied by **** ***** ************* The one you sent to my card company was created from public source and using stock art. I did not ask you to work on a cover, nor did you have in your possession and files sent by me. Yet, your company maintained this scenario in order to keep the money. This is in itself evidence of intention fraud in my mind. According to my many records of recorded communications and emails, your company continually fails to follow through with any meaningful communication. I have sent many emails to you this year asking for clarity of how the *** document you sent me works as a legal document to ****** ****** as printer and distributer of ordered printed material and to Strand Book Store, who is the end sale physic book vendor. ****** ****** has sent me communication that they do not recognize any third party insurance, other than the Return and Destroy agreement I already have in place as the publisher. This means the book can be returned by the retailer, except that I lose wholesale of the book and author's compensation. As for the bookstore the communication is that if such a Book Return Policy should exist, then it would between the company that writes the policy (i.e. Ink Start Media) and their purchasing department (i.e. Strand Book Store). Even though I have requested this information of clarification many times, and still your company has not responded.
As for the association of *** *****, Book Broker to your company I cannot say with any certainty. I do, however, have two emails from persons in your association that mentions him by name as a way to transmit information from your company to Strand purchasing agent regarding the book return insurance policy generated by Ink Start Media. And Mr. ***** mentions Ink Start Media by name and reputation in many correspondences between him and me going back to August 21, 2024. Even during his initial contact Mr ***** sent me an advertisment of Ink Start Media and its guaranteed relationship with Strand Book Store. Rest assured I have all these communications and attachments on record, which I have also transmitted to Better Business. If you check your email records you should have copies of these as well. So, I can assure you there is some connection between your company Ink Start Media and Book Broker *** ************
As far as your suggestion that I damaging professional reputation through slander, then be advised that I am only relaying information conveyed to me by Mr. ****** **** Chief Operating Officer of **************** of Strand Book Store chain. I am attaching my emails to Strand Book Store and the response from Mr. *********** ****** **** also sent me a link showing that Ink Start Media is on a prominent Fraud list. It puzzles me how you can claim to have generated a book return Insurance policy with a company that makes open claim that your company fraudulent and that you are on their Writer's Beware list of bad companies to do business with. So, if your company has a defense or another interpretation then please feel free to transmit it to me. Or better go directly to ****** **** at Strand Book Store ****************, since he is the source of accusations against your company. I am only the messenger, not the inventor of these allegations. I have been open to meaningful communication since the beginning of our correspondence, where as your threats only validate the fact that you took payment of my $3000.00 and still have not provided me with any verifiable evidence of any service.
In conclusion, I have made you a generous offer of resolution. If you do not wish to comply then I am the one that will be taking legal actions against you personally, your company Ink Start Media, and all parties involved in this transaction. If you choose not to respond to this email, then I will begin legal actions with the Atorney General's Office.
I am a writer and publisher of my own books because of unethical practices by company's only interested in making a quick buck. Pager ****************** and Media is now shut down because of me and people like me. It may take a while, but justice will prevail.
Just so there is no misunderstanding, this is where we stand. Either you return my $3000.00 investment, or you publish a hardcover edition as per my instructions and have it protected by a verifiable legally binding Insurance Policy recognized and accepted by Strand Book Store according to the terms of the said policy. As well as stating clearly that Ink Start Media is responsible for book returns, not me the author L. A. Espriux.
Respectfully

My Response To **** ***** Ink Start Media
Better Business Bureau Complaint #********
President **** *****, identifying himself as President of Company Ink Start Media maintains open that the company has maintained open and timely communication with me author and publisher L. A. Espriux. As I have stated before there was no communication sent to me directly from Ink Start Media from August 26, 2024 when I paid the full amount of $3000.00 directly to Inks tart Media ****************** upon instructions by Mr. *** *****. Prior to this, in August 20, 2024, Mr. ***** sent me by email the Strand Bookstore Proposal, clearly identifying Ink Start Media and a promise of book placement into retail Strand Book Store. I was also sent as document titled Bill of Quantities stating that Strand Book Store would place an initial promise order for ******************************************** circulation based on a ********************* Policy generated by Ink Start Media. (see attachments 1, 2,3)
At the time, I was in process of editing a book published in ************************** a Paper Moon Volume 1. I stated clearly to Mr. ***** that I would be doing the republication on my own using my purchased ISBN numbers and planned to break-up the book into two volumes. In early September when files where ready, I made many attempts to communicate with Ink Start Media to finalize the project so that the books could be ordered and placed into Strand Book Store as we agreed. My many inquiries were ignored. No emails sent directly to me from Ink Start Media and no response to my phone messages. Then I decided to cancel the said project with an Email Letter of Cancellation. (See attached 6)
When no response received, I contacted my card company and had the contract payment cancelled. Unknown to me at the time someone associated with Ink Start Media produced a book cover based on design of already published book by Page ****** in 2022. At this time, I had not transmitted any material relating to the book to *** ***** or Ink Start Media. Ink Start Media convinced my card company that this was proof of their engagement, by using a photoshop mock of the book already published and publicly available on line. I never requested this of them, nor are my republished volumes even remotely the same as the 2022 original, except the moon artwork created by Mrs. ***** ******. Because of confusion concerning a legal deadline my cancellation was reversed in favor of the merchant Ink Start Media.
I continued to attempt an inroad of communication with merchant. But still no response. After sending threat of legal action **** ***** from Ink Start Media contacted me in January stating eagerness to complete terms of our engagement. (See Attachment 7).
Finally in February a so-named Insurance Policy was emailed to me with vague language of how said policy to be executed, by whom, and to whom responsibility rest in event of legal dispute. It does not mention Ink Start Media by name, nor any bookstore. Nor is there any book vendor mentioned as I was originally led to believe in the works to place 200 copies of my books in a physical bookstore as originally promised by *** ***** when he led me to Ink Start Media. (See Attachment 10 ***************** Policy Issued by Ink Start Media).
I sent two clear requests asking how the so-named Insurance Policy might be used. Again no one bothered to respond. (See Attachment 8 and 9).
In recent challenge Ink Start Media has disavowed any knowledge of Book Broker *** *****, stating to BBB that they have no association with the man that facilitated communication on their behalf to get me to pay directly to them $3000.00. This is categorically not true. I have evidence going back to August of 2024 that proves *** ***** initiated contact, sent me numerous email communications on behalf of Ink Start Media, and even facilitated my trust to pay Ink Start Media $3000.00 (See Attachments 4 and 5). The contract communication back and forth and the amount of $3000.00 confirmed my *** ***** went directly to Ink Start Media. Either there was a conspiracy to commit fraud from the beginning, or the company has decided to knowingly practice unethical business deals that they have no intention of fulfilling. (See Attachment 4 and 5)
Wishing to give the company benefit of the doubt, I sent them I sent a proposal to **** ***** that I hoped might be beneficial to both our interest. He, nor anyone else even bothered to respond, as has been the company practice from the beginning in September of 2024. (See Attachment 11)
Since I could not communicate with Ink Start Media, I contacted Strand Book Store in an attempt to determine how to use said Insurance Policy. I was informed that Ink Start Media is on a Fraud list using the name and reputation of Strand Book Stores to illegally exact money from unsuspecting authors. Mr. **** ******* in fraud department of Strand Book Store chain sent back the email attached (See Attachment 12 and 13)
I forwarded this email to **** ***** and other email addresses associated with Ink Start Media. To date no one has bothered to respond with any defense, nor tried to reach out to me in attempt to clarify the validity of this accusation made by Strand Book Store. However, by evidence of their continued denial of the facts and persistent position that they have fulfilled their agreement to me without producing any justifiable evidence.
As to date Ink Start Media has only sent me a piece of paper they have named a ********************* Policy that no third-party book vendor recognizes, no r does Ink Start Media include any business credentials, logos,or name on this proposed document with a stated value of $3000.00.
This is not business, but deceptive extortion. (Please note that system limitation will not allow the additional attachments mentioned in this letter. Most are already part of the complaint and available upon demand.Sincerely,

Ink Start Media re-branded the self-publication of my three books which I still own all the rights to as self-published books- the Cycle of Cyrnos series, I have not received, although I have previously requested (e.g., on 09/15/2023 in writing), an accounting and payment of all royalties from the sales of books under *************** Amazon or otherwise (as I have recently learned that the books are available online through over ten other sites and I was previously told that the books would be distributed through bookstores). I have also complained about the lack of communication. I have been misled to pay $10,000+ which I would not have paid had Ink Start not have misrepresented the services to be provided. At this point, I should have certainty which I do not have. The first step now is to get an an accounting and payment followed by a meeting and resolution of how to move forward, if at all once, the accounting and payments have been timely and fully completed. I reserve all rights and remedies. Thank you. *************************Business Response

Dear Better Business Bureau,
I hope this email finds you well. I am writing to address a matter concerning the recent alleged
complaint that ***************************** has raised to Better Business Bureau.
On November 8, 2022, ***************************** submitted a down payment of $3,400 for the service
Indie ************** and was later fully paid on November 10, 2022. Later on, at November
17, 2022; **************** paid in full for the services of **** Cover Availability and Press release
for 4 of his books. As clearly outlined in our terms and conditions, the Author ****************
****** has completed and signed our Service Agreement stating that he agrees to the
aforementioned. **************** was made fully aware of this pricing structure, and we possess
recorded evidence of his agreement to proceed with the payment and services.
It is imperative to emphasize that the fulfillment of the services that **************** has been
rendered fulfilled. Our company policy dictates that refund or money back is out of the option
especially that the services has been concluded.
Regrettably, **************** has expressed dissatisfaction, claiming that he has not received the
service despite the completion of the aforementioned. We have recorded communication that
the services have been fulfilled and has been sent to the author.
In light of this situation, we must question the justification of Mr. ******* complaint. It is evident
that his claims are all but allegations with no hard evidence.
As a company, we prioritize transparency, integrity, and adherence to our policies and
agreements. Therefore, we kindly request your support in resolving this matter appropriately.
Please feel free to reach out if you require any further clarification or documentation regarding
this issue. We appreciate your attention to this matter and look forward to your prompt

I am rejecting this response because:30 April 2024
Dear ************:
Thank you for your immediate email response to my email submitted late last night. I reject the response of Ink Start Media. It fails to address my complaint filed with the BBB and further demonstrates that Ink Star Media has engaged and continues to engage is false, deceptive, and misleading acts and practices.
My complaint comprised two (2) parts:
- I have not received, although I have previously requested (e.g., on 09/15/2023 in writing), an accounting and payment of all royalties from the sales of books under ****** & *****, Amazon or otherwise (as I have recently learned that the books are available online through over ten other sites and I was previously told that the books would be distributed through bookstores) ; and
- I have also complained about the lack of communication.
My requested relief is: the first step now is to get an accounting and payment followed by a meeting and resolution of how to move forward, if at all once, the accounting and payments have been timely and fully completed.
My complaint is based upon the terms of the contract with Ink Start Media (see attached) which formed the essential purpose for me entering the contract with Ink Start Media in the first place and which included the following without limitation:
the products and services of [Ink Start Media] for the publishing and promotion of [my] work
Post-publication features: Quarterly Accounting/100% Royalty Program (Lifetime)
Royalties - the author will be informed and the number of book sales and royalties will be sent every quarter of the year.
I would not have entered this contract but for these provisions which comprise the essential purpose of the contract. The contract confirmed, as it required me to agree with Ink Start Media, that this agreement serves as a partnership between both parties and that [I] will receive royalty updates every quarter of the year.
Despite (1) my complaint being specific and focused, (2) Ink Start Media having a copy of the applicable contract, and (3) Ink Start Media having my prior demand letter for an accounting and payment of royalties (which it has not denied that I sent or it received), Ink Start Media totally ignored my complaints or my requested relief.
Rather, Ink Start Media sent a response that stated that it agreed to republish and promote the books for the agreed-to price (which it admits was paid in full) and there are no refunds. My complaint did not address either matter.
In its response, Ink Start Media provided no copies of any quarterly accountings, no copies of royalty payments, no copies of where the books were promoted and offered online or otherwise, and no communications about the foregoing. Ink Start Media claims to have fulfilled its obligations and duties as a partner without addressing the obligations and duties that I have complained about to the BBB. If Ink Start Media had fulfilled all its obligations and duties then I would now have a copy of the quarterly accountings, a copy of the royalty payments made, a copy where and how the books have been promoted or made available, and aa copy of all communications related to the foregoing.
Inks Start Media claims to prioritize transparency, integrity and adherence to [its] policies and agreements. Yet, Ink Start Media suggests that ignoring the bases of the complaint and instead substituting a straw man argument means transparency, integrity, and contract compliance. Ink Start Medias conduct belies transparency, integrity, and contract compliance. Had it disclosed its corporate policy, I would never have entered a contract with Ink Start Media.
Ink Start concludes that it is evident that [my claims] are all but allegations with no hard evidence. The attempt by Ink Start Media to vilify me when it has produced none of the required accountings, payments, and communications demonstrates bad faith and wrongful business practices. Had it disclosed its business practice, I would have never contracted with Ink Start Media.
The saddest dimension of the response of Ink Start Media is that all that I asked for was an accounting, the payment of accrued royalties, better communication, and a path forward if at all. A good business with integrity and transparency would have jumped on this opportunity. Ink Start Media chose a different wrongful path.
Ink Start Media could have avoided this entire complaint process by doing what it said it would do and responding to my prior request and demands. Again, Ink Start Media chose the wrong path.
I ask that this response be posted in the BBB file. I further ask that the BBB facilitate the process whereby Ink Start Media complies with my requested relief.
Thank you for your attention. If you have any questions, please contact me.

Date: 05/22/2024
I am rejecting this response because:21 May 2024
Dear ************:
Thank you for forwarding the response of Ink Start Media. As I anticipated, this response confirms the continued bad faith business practices of Ink Start Media.
In my last communication with the BBB, I cited to the contractual obligation of Ink Start Media (1) to provide quarterly reports, (2) to provide copies of all royalty payments, and (3) to report where the books are being offered and the details of sales through each outlet. Ink Start Media does not address, let alone refute, these outstanding obligations. These are the fundamental obligations of any entity that does what Ink Start Media does. It is a fundamental reason why I contracted with Ink Start Media. That fundamental purpose has been destroyed. Ink Start Media has provided none of the requested documents or information. It has not made any royalty payments.
Rather, Ink Start Media claims that it has tried to communicate with me because it left a message with my answering service. Yet, it fails to disclose that the phone number that it left with my answering service refused to accept any voicemails because the voice mail was always full. I twice called the number Ink Start Media left with my answering service. Ink Start Media is simply playing a game once again to try to blame me rather than address my complaint.
Ink Start Media offers no explanation why it has not provided the requested documents and information. Instead, it leaves a message and then forecloses receiving any return voice messages. Ink Start Media set up a scam. It has not tried to communicate with me. Rather, it seeks to blame me. The fact that I must now go through this kabuki dance with Ink Start Media demonstrates their bad faith.
Ink Start Media must provide the requested documents and information. It must pay all royalties that are due. It must set up a direct line of communication by email to me at **************. I do not trust Ink Start Media. All communications must be in writing. I will not participate in their scam of not being able to return any call. My email address is active.

Date: 02/22/2024
Dear Better Business Bureau,
I hope this email finds you well. I am writing to address a matter concerning the recent transaction with *********************** for the ******************************* ******* offered by our company.
On August 6, 2023, *********************** submitted a downpayment of $400 for the aforementioned *******. As clearly outlined in our terms and conditions, the full price of the ******* amounts to $2,000. ************ was made fully aware of this pricing structure, and we possess recorded evidence of his agreement to proceed with the downpayment.
It is imperative to emphasize that the fulfillment of the ******************************* ******* is contingent upon the complete settlement of the full payment. Our company policy dictates that *******s will only be rendered once the payment has been finalized.
Regrettably, ************ has expressed dissatisfaction, claiming that he has not received the ******* despite his partial payment. However, it is important to note that he has not fulfilled his obligation to make the full payment as per our agreement.
In light of this situation, we must question the justification of **************** complaint. It is evident that he has not fulfilled his financial commitment for the ******* in question. We must consider whether his actions align with the principles of fair business dealings or if they resemble those of an individual attempting to benefit without meeting their obligations.
As a company, we prioritize transparency, integrity, and adherence to our policies and agreements. Therefore, we kindly request your support in resolving this matter appropriately.
Please feel free to reach out if you require any further clarification or documentation regarding this issue. We appreciate your attention to this matter and look forward to your prompt response.
