This company exists to exploit the fact that it is still currently legal to obtain user information and go as far as emailing users marketing spam on behalf of the companies that sign up with them. Here's what happened to me today: I visited Instagram and then clicked on an ad link and briefly browsed a website that I'll call absurd.com for the purpose of sharing this experience. Within a few hours, I received an email from absurd.com ("via SafeOpt")... except that I never gave absurd.com permission to email me. I never even signed up with absurd.com. I only browsed for a few minutes... but that's all it took for absurd.com to pass my data on to SafeOpt so that they could send me unsolicited emails.Yuck. I guess I'm surprised now that I haven't yet experienced something like this, but it's another thing to add to the list of creepy things data harvesters can do with your data. And OF COURSE it's shady. You know it's unethical as all heck when SafeOpt's only recourse to the bad reviews here is to tell those reviewers to use a VPN to evade their all-seeing gaze. They confuse morality for legality, because tragically, they are operating legally... for now.Obviously, any company that uses SafeOpt is a company I'll be avoiding. And here's hoping for a future which makes data harvesting/abusing illegal one day!

A brands trying to ********** visitors can make good business sense and benefits consumers with discounts and other offers. As you note, it is not illegal. The brand was basically trying to be friendly/say hello based on your apparent interest in its site, but if thats not for you, thats your choice. Unsubscribing takes just a click in the email if you dont want brand offers. Consider browsing more anonymously if you want to be unrecognizable online.

Unethical, creepy, bad company. Worst of the worst! I was shopping for a mattress yesterday and visited a few sites. Suddenly i am receiving multiple spam emails relating to buying mattresses from "SafeOpt". I never opted in to receiving such emails from random websites and it is absolutely creepy that SafeOpt even has access to my browsing behavior.I don't give a hoot if their behavior is technically " legal". They should be ashamed. Very bad karma. I have requested to be completely removed from all their communications through the addshoppers contact form, and my request had better be requested! What a joke. I suggest people report every received email as spam, as well as giving the websites that are visited a poor review for using this idiotic advertising model. Perhaps if companies realize it hurts not helps to use a spam advertising service, these unethical spam communications would stop!!

We emailed on behalf of the sites you visited shown in the email. That was based on the sites settings and its privacy policy. The emails are intended to be helpful (i.e., provide site offers, discounts, etc.), but the email address you provided has now been unsubscribed.  Many websites review whos visiting, and try to engage with visitors. Consider using a VPN + adjusting your browser settings for more anonymity online.

I understand what they are doing is "legal" but it is shady and misleading.I received a marketing re-targeting email from a company I never gave my email to and saw it was connected to "SafeOpt" (another purposefully misleading name to include the word "safe").I should have control over who has my email. It should not be possible to opt into SafeOpt's ENTIRE NETWORK OF ADVERTISERS just by opting in on ONE of them.Brands should be ashamed to use this service, it is bad for my personal data and it is bad for data security.

We emailed on behalf of the customer shown in the email. The email you received was based on your interactions with a customers website, subject to that sites privacy policy. Your email address is not opted in to receive emails from our entire network, and it looks like your address was already unsubscribed from our marketing emails at your request. Many websites review whos visiting, and try to engage with visitors. Consider using a VPN + adjusting your browser for more anonymity online

I visited a site and that night a solicitation was sent to my work email address. I didn't fill out any forms or provide my email address anywhere. I was simply browsing. SafeOpt/AddShoppers is so invasive and unethical. I'll never buy ANY products or services from any company that uses this service. I assume they are as shady as SafeOpt if that's how they get customers. I'll be installing better controls on my browser to keep these vultures away.

We email on behalf of our customers featured in the emails. The email you received was based on your interactions with a customers website. The email is intended to be helpful but includes an unsubscribe if not for you. Many websites review whos visiting, and seek to engage with their visitors. Its not unethical, or shady. Trying to engage with visitors does not a vulture make. Feel free to adjust your browser for more anonymity. Consider adding a VPN service, too, if thats your goal.
