If zero were available, that's what I would give them. This ******* was sent by my home warranty company to repair what I thought was a straightforward washer drain clog of galvanized pipe. All went well until their ******* couldn't clear the drain on the first visit. A second ******* couldn't clear the drain on the revisit. I asked that the company just replace the clogged section of pipe. They refused and proceeded to produce four different estimates of more extensive work than was needed, starting at over $1000 and going as high as over $3,000 when they thought I was going to have to pay for it myself. Some of the work described wasn't even possible. Since the person making the estimates was never in my house, I assume he mixed up his estimates. ------------- would not approve any of the work this business proposed - it clearly would not be covered under my contract. Next, I had a telephone discussion with this company's owner at a time when he clearly thought I was going to have to pay for the repair myself, and he told me there were two ways to go: I could install a clean-out box, which would give them a better angle at the clog, or I could simply have him replace the clogged section. I once again told him if he would rebid just the pipe replacement, I was sure ------- would pay for it. The next thing I know he told ______ that a clean-out box was required (at $850 out of pocket for me) before he could replace the pipe. Since I believe the person he talked to was in ***** and couldn't possibly know anything about U.S. houses, that person naturally believed him., and required I pay the $850 before they would approve the pipe replacement. At that point and after a month of back and forth, I hired my own *******, who snaked the drain, completed the entire repair in 45 minutes and charged me $300. On top of everything else, this company's communication is abysmal.Pro-Tec Plumbing & Drain

Before we even came out to the home, you called and left a voicemail stating that if we didn't want to do the work then you would call your warranty company and find someone else. We discussed that our bad reviews are due to this exact situation of items not being covered by the home warranty. I informed you that we would be more than happy to come out and submit your claim to the home warranty company with our findings. Our findings were that you had a clog. The warranty requires you to have clean out access for us to clear a clog. They will not just replace a clogged pipe. Also, the warranty company does not and will never cover for a technician to go on a roof to snake and our company doesn't go on a roof to clear drains so that wasn't a solution we could offer you. Your 2 options with our company were to install a clean out or a repipe, neither of which the home warranty company will pay for so our hands were tied since you didn't want to pay for the work to be done. AHS's customer service being in another country has nothing to do with what your contract clearly states and it clearly states that you need a clean out, which you don't have. We had communication with you from the beginning so to say it's abysmal is beyond me. We had several emails as well as phone conversations between our office staff and owners. You sent several messages specifically demanding someone call you immediately or you were reporting us when that wasn't possible. I apologize you didn't receive the service you expected but when you're working with a home warranty company, you should know that they do not cover everything. And they wouldn't have covered any plumber who went on your roof to snake your line so regardless of what plumber AHS sent out, you would have given a bad review which is unfortunate.Review fromTyler P

1 star***** from Pro-tec showed up at my house through an American Home Shield work request. The issue was simple - a leaky faucet. The "technician" spent 10 seconds on the faucet before stating the s**** was stripped and unable to be repaired and then spent another 10 minutes arguing with me on how he couldn't do anything. He submitted a diagnosis to AHS stating "misuse" and was going to charge $350+ to saw off the handle. Due to this diagnosis, AHS would not cover the expense. It is important to note that non-covered expenses go directly to the service provider. I hired a new plumber outside of AHS who fixed the issue in less time than it took for ***** to argue for $100. This real plumber had no issues whatsoever with the s**** and had it off in a blink of the eye. I saved hundreds of dollars by not using Pro-tec. All it takes is experience and Pro-tec does not have that. Do yourself a favor and save some time and money by not allowing them anywhere close to your property.Review fromDemetrice B

1 starDO not use them, they are terrible, my work is incomplete, they did a clean out which takes *** a half day and it has been since May 8th. They have left my yard in a mess. I have all types of humps and lumps in my yard, the plumbing on the inside is still leaking. I am very disappointed in their work and American Home Shield is who recommended and sent them out to do the job. They were not helpful with assisting to get my work done properly as well.Review fromTrent J

5 starsNothing but great service. A leak developed in the water pressure valve on the main water line coming into the house. Called American Home Shield and within a few minutes I had an appointment. *****, the plumber showed up exactly on time. He was very professional and polite. He looked at the problem, knew what to do and got the job done. Nice, neat job too. No talk or suggestion of any extra charges etc. I was a little skeptical after reading some of the reviews but my experience with Pro-Tec was nothing short of AAA+++.Review fromHeather L

1 starMy home warranty company ************-Tec to repair a broken pipe in the crawl space. The tech arrived and after I explained what happened, he and I went into the crawlspace. He immediately said there is no pressure regulator on my shut off pipe and the home warranty company most likely will not cover repairs. He then went to where the broken pipe was and stated that the pipe broke due to high pressure. We were in the crawl space for less than 5 minutes. He came out and said he would have to call my warranty company to get approval. He was in his work truck for about 10 minutes and then came back to me with a woman on speaker. She stated that the pipe repairs were not covered due to high pressure in the lines. I asked her how would they know that if the water pressure was not measured. She stated that she has to go off of the techs assessment. The tech never measured the pressure nor did he remove the broken pipe to see the cracked thread on the t joint piece. I was with him the whole time he was at my home besides his time he spent in his truck. I also have security cameras that recorded everything that was said. The lady on the phone then quoted me almost $700 for the repairs and the required pressure regulator valve. Once the phone call ended the tech then stated that any water pipe with a pressure between 50-75psi requires a pressure regulator. I know that ************** code requires a pressure regulator valve over 80psi. I am confused as to why he stated a range for the requirement. I thanked him for his time and called another plumber. The second plumber repaired the broken pipe and tested the water pressure, which was 70 psi. The second plumber charged me less than half for the repairs required. My pipes are 35 years old and my neighborhood uses a small community well. How could the tech from Pro-Tec say the broken pipe was not due from wear and tear?Review fromRakesh K

I apologize that you had this experience. The technician came to the home to diagnose the issue and instead of being able to diagnose the issue, he was told that he had to replace items that didnt need replacing. The technician was unable to fully diagnose the issue and left due to confrontation. Please contact your home warranty company for a second opinion or transfer. Thank you.Review fromRev. Angela H.

1 star**** the con that apparently hates his job came out! I had a horrible experience with this company Im *************************************************************************** **** out again! But almost 2 years later here we are! And to my surprise there he stands all 5 feet of him standing at my door with his RUDE unprofessional attitude. Again, he lied on diagnosing the issue. I dont understand how he would say pipes under the house which has nothing to do with the issue were having. Im convinced that hes a liar! He made up his own diagnosis based on when my house was build! Not understanding that my pipes under the house were replaced in 2017! This guy is not a good representative unless hes following the company structure. NEVER use this company the plumber **** is dishonest
