The business was hired, by contract, to install sufficient closed cell foam to reach R30, in my metal workshop. The area to be insulated is a 20x30 building with 10ft walls and a 3ft peak (1800 sqft). In the contract, the owner stated that he would provide a ceramic heater to ensure that the building temperature was be above 70F (required for the product applied to perform properly) the night before but did not.

On Ja. 15, 2023, **** (the owner) and a worker, *****?, arrived at 0940 to begin work. He planned to use the small touch up foaming system, also known as a two tank DIY method to cover 1800 sqft of metal surface.

The outdoor ambient temperature was approximately in the upper 40F range. Using two of MY small room space heaters, the indoor temp rose to approximately 52F. Way too low for product application. When asked about this, **** stated that he was going to warm the spray foam cylinders to 70F and it would be okay.

After two hours of work, I checked on their progress, and it was clearly evident that the process had failed. **** had used two spray units meant to cover 400-600 sqft to only cover 120ft (approximately). The area covered did not provide 4 inches of insulation for R30 insulation value, and it did not achieve full expansion wherever applied. I repeatedly expressed my concerns re: foaming in the low interior and exterior temperature but was assured it would work.

The pair then left to get more material in ********** and would also bring the ceramic heater previously promised. On return, 3hrs later, the tanks were cold and only a small propane heater had been brought. The rest of the lower 8ft of walls were sprayed but, also failed to reach R30 insulation value or 4in thick. Some of the materials have never cured properly.

****, promised to return the next day unless the weather (rain and cold forecast) prevented that. I texted him to halt the project until we talked about the application methods. He hasn’t replied to calls/texts
