I had a gym membership of $35/month at 24/7 Fitness in *******, NC. It was a one year contract, but I enlisted in the military and gave the owner, *** ******* my orders so that I could break the membership prematurely without penalty as he agreed. As a member, the charges appeared as "24 7 Fitness" on my bank statements. Now, they are disguised as "Membership Dues," which is one reason why I didn't know it was coming from the gym for so long. I canceled my subscription in October 2021. During 11/2021 and 12/2021, the payments stopped, so I never noticed the payments starting again while I was in basic training from 10/19/2021 to 03/03/2022. I didn't find out until this month. There are months where the payments weren't drafted as well, according to my bank statements (11/2021, 12/2021, 2/2022, 4/2022, 6/2022, 10/2022). However, according to the draft company, 12/21 was processed. A total of $525 were made after the cancellation; fifteen inconsistent transactions. I contacted the owner about the issue and he stated that it was out of his hands and it was the automatic payment draft company he used. He called and gave them a "serious talking to." I also called them and they explained that they don't have the systems for refunding but only drafting payments. *** ******* offered a free membership for me or someone I knew, but I relocated to Colorado and I don't believe that offer stands proportionate to the level of money taken from me well after ending the membership. As the sole owner, stating that the unfortunate event is out of his hands seemed falsified. I have a record from the draft company of the paymentes, my bank statements, my old military orders for basic training, and a recording of our conversation where he admitted my account being canceled. Being isolated in Basic Training, I had enough money for bills to be taken, so there were months where the drafts were mysteriously declined, retried, and processed. I want my money back.
