I engaged ******************************* of Hunter Gatherer Properties in October 2022 to do two bathroom renovations, including flooring joists repairs and removal of popcorn ceilings, with two coats of paint after removal, and repair/clean up on a home I own in **********, **, which is not my primary residence. We agreed on a project completion date of December 2022. I gave him the first payment of $5169.38 by credit card as a deposit in October 2022. The second payment was due in December, and he requested that I not pay by credit card as it was too expensive. I sent payment in November by check for $5695.40. On December 6th **** claimed he had not yet received payment. He called me on December 7th and said he hadn't received payment and asked if I could wire him the money. I wired the money that day and told him to hold the check should it arrive in the mail. The next day (12/8) I checked my account and the check had been cashed. Which meant I had paid $16,560.18, when he should have only had been paid $10,843.78 for the work he clamed to have done up to that time. After that double payment was made, no other work was done on the house--leaving holes in the floors and ceilings, toilets not installed, no counter tops, sinks, or faucets (none purchased either, which were included in the estimate), exhaust vents were taken out and not replaced, HVAC was disconnected, no cleaning was done at all, drains were not reconnected, no grab bar installed in the shower, and they didn't do two coats of paint per agreement. In addition, the work that was completed was questionable at best. Drains in the crawl space were cut to allow for joist replacement were compromised, the aesthetic work for tiling and grouting is sub-par, and they left the trailer full of trash in my back yard until I had to email him when I returned to the property (3/10) to ask him to remove it (he got it 3/15). I have an itemized list of all that was to be completed by **** and most was either not done or not done well.
