We had an insurance claim approved and work began for a new roof at a commercial property we own in ****, ** on 7/25/23. I paid half of the total on 7/11/23 prior to any work being done, which at that time was $47,907. Citadel Contracting got the job approved and installed, with some issues due to their oversight which we were promised would be paid from their company's general liability insurance coverage, but it was not. Their oversight was added to our claim which made a $96000 claim a $147,711 claim. This seemed wrong to me, and I let them know. The owner, *************************** became threatening and aggressive stating he held up his end, I needed to hold up mine. I did call the carrier and explain that approximately $52000 of the claim was due to an error made by the roofing company. The insurance company paid the claim anyway. ************** sent several follow up emails stating he would credit the balance of the final invoice by a total of $****. I asked for and received the final invoice on 9/7/23 for payment, but instead of ****, they gave me a **** credit. I reached out to the owner with my proof via his own letter and emails, but only received threatening responses about how iron clad their contracts are and that he no longer wanted to allow the incentive he had offered, and that if I didn't pay by tomorrow, he would file a lien on my property. It is also understood that unless the aforementioned balance isn't paid in full, there will be no warranty sent to me covering my roof! I have received the funds from the claim and today I mailed the full balance ($98803.61) that ************** claims is due. Per his ***************** I am owed $1059.59. My sincere hope is that the service area in which Citadel Contracting is doing work, is fully aware that their word, even written word is not their promise. The right thing in business is to be forthright with clients and do what you say you're going to do. What is actually lost here is **************' and his business' integrity.
