On or about November 2022 we formed an LLC. I received a letter stating I had one step left in order to buy your "optional" Certificate of Existence from NC Certificate Service. I mailed the $82.00 to them by check and it was immediately cashed. I NEVER received ANYTHING from them. I began calling in February and let them know I have not received anything and want a refund. I have called at least 4 times requesting a refund and now when I call I can never reach them directly, I get an answering service. I just want a refund for something I paid for and never received. All the answering service says is I will get them the message and they will call you back. NOONE EVER CALLS back.

North Carolina Certified Documents Service sent me an email that looks like an NC state agency behalf email that we have our LLC annual filing fees due etc . we were dubiously tricked and cheated to pay 399$ for same.
I need the fees refunded and action taken on this dubious fraud posing company that's literally cheating thousands of NC state LLC owners.

This company states in e-mails that their “certificate” is required to do business in the state of North Carolina. The copy and paste verbiage they use is at the end of this email:. This is deceitful as it implies that you have to do this through them and is a service that is required by the state of NC. It is NOT. You simply have to file an annual report when you file taxes. On top of that, they charge $400 basically as a processing fee. Until we are refunded our $400 I will be filing complaints with the FCC, FTC and through North Carolina DOJ.

It is ridiculous for companies to shell out $400 for such a deceptive practice when small businesses are already struggling enough when it comes to costs control and several other measures. This is not a good look for North Carolina and I will also write to my elected state senator requesting some sort of action.

      DECEPTIVE EMAIL:
      ——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————
Happy New Year! It is time to file your 2023 Annual Report with the Secretary of State, Corporations Division, in order to renew your business with the state of North Carolina.

      What is an Annual Report?
An annual report is the yearly renewal of your business. EVERY business MUST file an Annual Report every new calendar year in order to continue conducting business and maintain an "active status" with the Secretary of State, regardless of profits, losses, or number of employees.

You may also require an updated 2023 Labor Law Poster
Businesses with at least 1 employee must, by law, display up-to-date Labor Law Posters.

ANNUAL REPORTS NOT FILED WITHIN 60 DAYS OF BEING LATE WILL BE DISSOLVED BY THE STATE, UNABLE TO CONDUCT BUSINESS, AND MAY ENDURE ADDITIONAL REINSTATEMENT FEES.

This company is a scam! And unfortunately I was unable to get my money back because it was through money order. Realized I was scammed after receiving another letter in the mail asking for the same thing and it’s been two weeks and haven’t heard anything back from this alleged company! Give me back my money! Don’t fall for this. Wish I researched before paying :((

      DATE OF TRANSACTION: 8-10-2022
      AMOUNT PAIDI: $82.00
SERVICE OFFERED: Certificate to show bank we are a valid corporation.
We are a new nonprofit getting started. I was suspicious at first because I've never paid anything like this before or proving to a bank our existence. When I called the number, they were adamant that it needed to be paid to be valid with the bank. Our organization is so new that we didn't quite have the $82 in our account at that time without leaving it dry, so I paid out of my own personal account even though I'm out of work. I happened to mention to my banker, and she was not aware of it at all which is why I'm now contacting you after looking it up online and seeing that it is fraudulent.
