I hired ****** ******************** to edit my manuscript on December 5th 2023. Through a phone call I was clear to Ms. ******************** that it is a handwritten manuscript and that I need it to also be typed. She said her rates were $3.50 a page. I counted my handwritten manuscripts pages and estimated 146 pages. It was the amount of pages I counted in my handwritten manuscript. At that rate Ms ******************** claimed I would be charged a total of $511 for her to edit 146 pages. But agreed over the phone- that we can do a flat fee of $500 for her to type and edit the manuscript. After meeting up with Ms ******************** on Dec 8th with manuscript in hand. She claimed that she would have to charge me an additional $50 for typing the handwritten manuscript although we had already negotiated a price based off estimate of my pages plus labor. Ms ******************** explained to me that she was unaware that it was a handwritten manuscript and wants to charge an additional $50 dollars for the labor of typing. I agreed in order to keep peace. After receiving my manuscript back on December 18th and paying her $550 I come home to realize that the manuscript she edited and typed was only 94 pages and not the 146 I had estimated. I contacted her inquiring why she had been dishonest and over- charged me. She claimed she didnt count the pages after she edited my manuscript and that her rates are $3.50 a page. I explained I counted the pages and that my new total page count was at 94 pages after she converted the manuscript with computer font. So rightfully I should be charged less than. And given a new estimate after she converted and seen that -my pages were less. But Ms ******************** hid that knowledge from me. Brought a child out in the cold to this meet. I felt uncomfortable counting the pages under those circumstances. I wanted to get her child and the two of us out of the elements. Paid $550 dollars without thinking that she had done less work than we agreed . Realized when I came home and counted the pages-that she swindled me.
