On Aug 14 2024 we checked into Best Western shallotte nc. Upon check in before moving anything into the room we went back to the desk with our concerns over how small the shower was and had no kind of safety bars at all. Im disabled but can walk but have a lot of balance issues. But we was told thats all that was available was those type of rooms even though we had looked online and it showed different. We had other issues with cleanliness and took pics and reported that to the hotel and then to corporate. Had to goto ******* and buy 50 bucks in pillows just to feel clean enough to sleep. The next day when we left there was hardly nobody staying here at all it was mostly contractors from what I seen. So we contacted them again with the concern of marijuanna smell so bad that I could smell it and I cant smell anything anymore. We went to this location for the purpose of a complete no smoking property according to the website. My wife has a incurable lung disease and cannot be around smoking of any kind but this hotel had a smoking section upfront right by by the pool and the smell of cigarettes and weed especially filled the whole bottom floor. No matter what we said or did the property done nothing to try and accommodate a handicap man and his wife who also has many health issues. The only thing they did after Expedia contacted them was they went in our room and changed a room darkening curtain that clearly had blood on it but told them it was rust. This was the nastiest place Ive ever stayed and never felt so singled out and helpless. I feel that if I was in a wheelchair I might would have been helped to get better accommodations instead of taking a chance of falling everytime I took a shower. Im 6 ft 4 275 lbs and clearly couldnt fit in that shower even without my disability but nobody even tried to help. Shame on best western.
