On Friday, February 14, 2025, I hired Stanley Steamer to clean the air ducts and dryer vent in my 900 square-foot residence in ** (1 return, 8 floor vents). I hired this company because they are the only local service accredited by the *************************************************** (*****). When I interviewed them, they affirmed that they follow NADCA procedures, including applying negative pressure and sealing off vents, to prevent debris from entering the home. When the technicians arrived at my home, they stated that they did not know I had an outside [AC] unit, but that it would be fine. I asked them about sealing the vents, and they said it would not be necessary. To clean the vents, they agitated the debris via steam line, and vacuumed out what they could reach with a shop-vac. As the cleaning went on, I noticed that visible bursts of debris were exiting the vents and entering my home. I asked again about sealing and negative pressure, but was told this was not necessary due to the small number of vents. After the technicians left, I inspected my home and found black debris on anything near the vents, including walls, couches, beds, my daughter's toys, clothes, my piano, and other surfaces. The company offered to have the same two technicians return to clean the home. Desiring a more professional resolution, I declined. To avoid exposing my newborn and wife to unknown contaminants, I moved my family to a nearby relative's house, where we are still staying. The company scheduled a reservicing and cleaning for Monday. That morning, we spoke on the phone. I requested a full refund, reservicing of the vents, and payment for a professional cleaning of the home including furniture and carpets. The agent admitted fault over the phone, but said that my desired resolution was too expensive. They offered a reservicing and $100 refund, or a "clean break" and full refund with no help for the cleaning. They said, "unfortunately, when this happens, both parties get screwed."
