Port city sports performance has and will continue to be a breading ground of bacteria, viruses and skin infections.I started going to the gym back in April of 2022 since joining the gym I had got infected with multiple skin infections due to the negligence of maintaining a clean environment for working out. They allow dogs inside of the establishment which at times is nice but when they have to relive themselves and the owners do not catch it on time they are urinating and defecating on the gym rubber mats and turf.Yes picking up the f**** but only spraying the top of the surface and not cleaning underneath the rubber or getting the urine out of the turf has the establishment buried in bacteria. Also gym owners allowing other members of the gym to train with open skin infections not covered up touching, sweating on the equipment has lead to not only myself but multiple others who live a healthy lifestyle having to fight unwanted skin infections and viruses.

    Business Response

    Date: 12/19/2023

There was a complaint filed on 12/11/23 by this particular member. The complaint he submitted was for receiving multiple skin infections due to the negligence of maintaining a clean environment for working out and then states it was directly from not cleaning up after a few dogs properly.
First let me state this complaint is filed out of malice and contains a series of lies and falsehoods. He states he became a member in April of 2022, which in fact is not accurate. He has been a paying member since 05/18/2018, almost 6 years, which is stated by our third party billing system.
Second, the member appeared in the gym two days prior to the complaint (Friday), interrupted a conversation I was having and stated I think I owe you some money! I replied with Im not sure but I can look it up when in front of the computer. He then explained he tried to cancel with the third party billing system but guesses he didnt didnt do it properly. He explained he had to take a couple months off because of skin infections he received at *********** next door. He openly admitted to another member and myself he received skin infections from that MMA gym, not my gym, which shows another example of an inaccurate statement. We chatted and caught up on his life, then he left.
On the day of the complaint (Monday), I looked his information up and saw he owed $310.00 ($140.00 in fees). I texted him relaying this information, but also told him to not worry about the fees and to just pay the gym dues of $170.00. The member then proceeded to tell me he thought it was canceled in August and he shouldn't have to pay because he got ill. Then threaten to "pursue action" against the gym. I explained to him I didn't appreciate being threatened, especially since he clearly didnt handle it properly with the billing company. And that if he wouldve reached out I would've helped, as I have helped him out before when he didnt have the money. I even stated ** waive the two months and he could settle up for $110.00. In the end I told him if hes seeking counsel, we shouldnt be having any further discussion. Evidently, instead of the attorney, he filed a complaint with the BBB.
This member is an amateur MMA fighter and former high school wrestler. Skin infections sadly happen all the time in that type of business and sport. My business, nor myself, are affiliated with *********** he stated he contracted it from. We do share some members like this particular member. These members could have skin infections, but we cannot legally go around and ask members personal health information. HIPPA prohibits this. We do our part to clean all equipment thoroughly and regularly on top of paying a cleaning service that comes in as well. We can only hope all members do their part to clean up after themselves and not use the facilities if theyre sick and/or have skin infections. If something can legally be addressed, then it is done respectfully.
We allow mature trained dogs into our open ************. Many are service dogs of former military. Do accidents happen from time to time? Yes, of course. But our members also know there is a very thin line, and it's all cleaned up and disinfected. There have been owners asked to not bring their dogs back in certain cases. This member states these infections were a direct result from the animals having an accidents and not being cleaned up properly. And yet, this member had no problem bringing his dog in quite often. If he truly felt there was an issue, why didnt he ever address it? Or better yet, why did he contribute to said problem?
In the end, this complaint is purely monetarily based. He was given a heavily discounted rate and given multiple opportunities to ask for help because he has been with the gym for so long. He has been given help in the past as well. Instead, he made threats and tried to smear my business with a false complaint to the BBB.
I hope this provides a complete description and allows the BBB to see I tried to handle this reasonably and with the consumers best interest at heart.
