On 6/30/23 we purchased a 852 lb beef to be processed by American Butchers. On July 10 the beef had been processed and was ready to be cut. On July 21 my daughter picked up the meat and I paid the ****** $1370.39 for the processing. My daughter called me when she divided the meat into quarters and told me we had 390 lbs of meat. This would equate to only 46% of the beef was processed into usable meat. We purchase several beef per year and have them processed in NE and at no time have we received only 46 %. Our last beef, processed at ****** ****** was 60%. At 46% this beef cost $9.49/lb. I called the ****** and was told they are USDA accredited and follow guidelines causing them to reduce the amount of usable meat from a processed beef. Upon checking, I found this is not true. I have emailed, called 3xs and there is no response. This bill is $427 over the price of other ******s in the same vicinity. I would like an explanation to find out why I was not given more than 46% of a 852lb beef.

    Greetings,

We do not wish to respond to ** ******** because we have provided explanations for how animals are processed and pricing to no avail.  We wish for BBB to read both sides and make a determination. Everything we have written is what we tried to explain to her.  You are more than welcome to summarize our justification for not refunding her, but we do not wish to communicate any longer with her directly.  Thank you. Feel free to call me directly to speak with me. ******* ********  American Butchers

    Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response because: Upon reading the response from American Butchers, it appears this is directed to a ** ******* and I am ***** **********.
Mon 6/30 *** **** contacted me to inform me a beef had been delivered to Beaver City for processing. We discussed price and I was given information to contact Beaver City with cutting instructions. Our family has been purchasing beef from the **** ranch for 30+ years. We’ve always been pleased with the beef. My understanding of the beef market and the process comes from being raised on a generational family farm in Harlan County. I contacted ****** and discussed processing price and told her to follow our 2021 cutting instructions. On 7/11 the beef was ready for pick up and my daughter picked up the whole beef and distributed it to our family in 4 equal shares. The following day my daughter informed there was only 394 lbs at the cost of $9.49/lb. On Monday I called and was told due to the USDA accreditation there would be less usable meat. Following my conversation with the ****** I contacted 2 other ******s, who had processed beef for us recently and shared my billing/weight/processing info. Accordingly, we paid over $400 over the market rate. I sent an email, no response. Called and left messages, no response. I finally called and let them know, due to their lack of responsiveness, I would file a complaint with the BBB.

I filed this complaint due to my concern over their declining business practices. This could have been handled with a simple phone call!

    Sincerely,
