This was not my first birth. I had preeclampsia previously. I was taking low dose aspirin to "help control my blood pressure" at my last appointment the Dr told me to stop taking it but, did not prescribe an alternative. I had a small amount of liquid at 39 weeks, 1 day and was having very mild contractions. My last birth began this same way. Except, it was at 39 weeks and 4 days.
I had not slept in almost 3 days(36 hours) when I went to the hospital. My first conversation with the on-call Dr. was on the phone in my hospital room. There was a very bad connection. She presented "her treatment plan" when I asked to wait and rest she became angry and yelled at me. "DO YOU THINK YOU CAN FOLLOW MY TREATMENT PLAN!" There was no communication regarding alternative treatments and no development of a treatment plan that I had say in. Her plan was final.
My personal autonomy was violated. I felt my basic human rights and body were violated.
After I refused the medication and told them to stop it altogether. She told the nurses that if my labor did not progress to where she wanted it to be in 2 hours she would give me a C-section. I was dilated to 6. I felt that this was a horrible decision. There was only a risk, not an emergency. I refused and regretted following her treatment plan. I still regret following her treatment plan.
I did not even get to give birth in the position that I wanted. They gave me so many drugs that I lost count.
I gave birth on my back, surrounded by a lot of people. I couldn't feel or move my body from my chest down. This was not at all what I wanted. I now have an issue with hip pain.
The Dr joked with the nurses that all she had to do to get me to follow her treatment plan was threaten me. She then said all the additional people in my delivery room she had invited from the lab. I'm a very modest person, this was unprofessional and unethical.
I'm finally at a point we're I feel comfortable talking about this awful experience.
