I am filing a formal complaint against CountryBuilt Construction and its owner, ***** ****, for failing to complete contracted work and exhibiting unprofessional behavior.
On October 21, 2024, we signed a contract with CountryBuilt Construction to complete repairs following water damage in our home. Tasks included:
    • Drywall repair and painting,
    • Replacement of the bathroom vanity,
    • Installation of new doors throughout the home.
***** repeatedly failed to show up as promised and, when he did, worked only briefly before leaving for days or weeks. Additionally, the work he completed was substandard and not up to code, including unfinished drywall in the basement that left exposed pipes behind the furnace.
Communication with ***** was frustrating and inconsistent. Despite frequent texts from my husband, ***** often failed to respond. Phone calls and voicemails were ignored, and it wasn’t until we left a public message on his business Facebook page that he finally replied.
On January 17, 2025, ***** promised to finish the final tasks but canceled last minute, claiming illness. At that point, we terminated the agreement due to repeated delays, lack of communication, and his failure to fulfill the contract.
We also incurred over $700 in additional expenses for materials, including paint, doors, and a bathroom vanity, which were expected to be included in the original contract.
We have requested a refund of $2,500 to account for the incomplete work, the cost of purchasing the materials mentioned above, and the expense of hiring another contractor to finish the project. If this matter is not resolved, we are prepared to pursue legal action through small claims court. Enclosed are copies of the contract, receipts, and correspondence for your review. We kindly seek the BBB’s assistance in facilitating a resolution to this issue.
    Thank you for your attention.

    Business Response

    Date: 01/31/2025

This complaint is coming from a disgruntle customer and pretty much everything that have said in untrue and lies. Do  I need to include all txts, emails and what ever else i have that will show the truth? Should i also include statements from the other contractors? Any info would be very much appreciated.

    Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response because:

I stand by my previous statement regarding the unprofessional manner in which ***** handled our reconstruction project. He received full payment of $16,900 upfront yet failed to complete the work as agreed. Given these circumstances, it is entirely reasonable for me to be dissatisfied and to file a complaint while seeking a refund. If the project had been completed properly, this situation would not have arisen.

The original contract was modified and mutually agreed upon by both parties via email. This was to make the job easier for ***** to finish, as he was not showing up to complete the work in a timely manner. Additionally, we have attached more receipts detailing the items purchased, as well as the costs incurred to hire someone else to complete the work that CountryBuilt Construction had originally agreed upon.

Rather than taking responsibility, ***** continues to place blame on the customer and make excuses. This pattern of deflecting accountability further demonstrates the unprofessionalism that led to this dispute in the first place.

    Sincerely,

    ***** * ******** *********
