On November 8th 2024 I purchased a 2015 Doge Journey Crissroad from R&L Auto and Towing for almost $9,000. We bought it as is, but they sold it to me inspectable. They couldn't give me a current sticker because the machine used to certify a car for inspection wouldn't clear because they'd had to jumpstart the car. On November 12th 2024, the check engine light came on. I called them and left a voicemail letting them know, but never got a call ******* boyfriend has a scanner you plug into the obd port on the car and it'll tell you what the engine codes mean. We can't remember what the original code came up as, but we put sea foam in the engine and cleared the code. It came back on 3 days later. On November 18th I called and left another voicemail at 9:29 am. They never called me back. I called again at 1:54 pm and they said we needed to bring the car in to them. We brought it to them on the 19th and they had it all day on the 20th. He said he cleaned the mass air pressure sensor. The light came back on the next day. I'd had an episode of migraines and wasn't able to call until November 25th. They said they'd need the car for 2 days in order to work on it. On December 3rd I called back and they told me I needed to drive the car ***** miles to get a hard code before I could bring it to them. The light then started flashing and the code came up with a misfire in the engine. My partner called them and was told we needed to diagnose and fix the misfire before they would work on the original code. We replaced the spark plugs and fuel injectors with no improvement. We went through the tests and it was determined that the *** needs replacing. On December 17th I called them and told them the *** needed replacing and asked if they would be covering. I was rudely told no because "we had gone into the engine with a scanner".

    RE: complaint #********

In response to the complaint received from ****** *****. I am attaching the Bill of Sale and the AS-IS form signed by ******.

Approximately a week after car was purchased we received a call from ****** who stated that the check engine light had come on in the car. She explained that her boyfriend plugged the car into his computer. We scheduled an appointment to have the car looked at at our repair shop. She brought the car in and we read the code with our computer. We put the computer on monitor and asked her to drive the car for 1000 miles and bring it back so the car would set a hard code that we could diagnose properly. Her boyfriend added seafoam to the gas tank also. We asked that her boyfriend not use his computer on the car again so we could properly diagnose the code. In the meantime her boyfriend called stating there were new codes and that he changed the spark plugs, injectors and coil packs. We told him that we had asked that nobody scan the car or do repairs so we could repair the car. We stated we would not be willing to continue with diagnosing since that was done. A week later ****** called stating the car was at the dealer and she was told it needed a ***. The original code had nothing to do with the **** She wanted us to pay for it and we declined.

    Thank you

I do not accept the business's response as a resolution to my complaint because: The call logs showed there was more than just 3 calls between us. Since the calls weren't recorded I can't prove that they lied. I know multiple people who bought vehicles from them who have had issues with the cars shortly afterwards.

I will accept that there is nothing to be done, but I will not accept that they are in the right.
    Sincerely,

We were more than willing to help with the car as we looked at it free of charge. We asked that nothing be done to the car while we were diagnosing. Simple request.

We do sell used vehicles. There is always a chance that something could go wrong with it of course. We have been honest with our customers. We have many repeat customers that have been happy with their purchases and appreciate our willingness to be fair. I personally have a brand new car that has been to the dealer 3 times and is going back again for service.
