- Additional Info:A Rhode Island statewide Grand Jury reported out a secret indictment charging David Chandonnet and Deborah Brown each with 17 counts of Medical Assistance Fraud, commonly referred to as Medicaid Fraud, three counts of failing to file personal income tax returns, and one count of obtaining money under false pretenses. The investigation was led by Rhode Island Office of Attorney General Investigator William Magill and the United States Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Inspector General, Special Agent Peter Cote. Special Assistant Attorneys General Genevieve M. Allaire Johnson and Kurt Mutter prosecuted the case on behalf of the Office of Attorney General.
It is alleged that between 2010 and 2012, Chandonnet, the owner and operator of Northeast Pedorthics, a durable medical equipment company formerly located in Warwick, and Deborah Brown, who worked as the office manager for Pedorthics, fraudulently submitted claims to the Rhode Island Medicaid Program for payment. It is further alleged that the defendants failed to file personal income tax returns for 2010, 2011 and 2012. The State alleges the total loss to the Rhode Island Medicaid Program is in excess of $600,000.
