I needed to replace my hearing aids and wanted the same make/model. I needed a new provider as my previous local one had shut their doors. I assumed this would be out of pocket and I would get reimbursed by my health insurance.I made an appt at Aria Hearing after emailing to be sure they carried the aids I wanted. At my appointment, the provider quoted me $6999 for the pair. When the aids came in, she called and we made an appointment for me to pick them up.Meanwhile, I researched how to get reimbursed and learned found that my employer provides a hearing aid benefit managed through Amplifon. I had to order through them if I wanted to be reimbursed. (******** buys the aids and sends them to the provider. The patient/insurance pays less because ******** has purchasing power with manufacturers.) Amplifon confirmed to me that I could get the ones I wanted and said they would send my profile to Aria Hearing. When I told the provider at ****, she canceled my appointment and said she was sending the aids back saying, "I'm not selling you MY aids for THAT!" She told me that she wasn't sure I could get the ones I wanted through Amplifon. I asked her to check their portal in a couple of days, because it was my understanding that I could. Two days later **** called me back and said they were sending the aids they had ordered back and that I now had to pay a $300 restocking fee. I pointed out that A) it had been an honest mistake (my not knowing I should use Amplifon) and B) I hadn't signed anything saying I would buy them or pay a restocking fee. She said that if I wanted to get aids through HER, I would pay the $300. I ended up going elsewhere and getting the aids I wanted through *********** conclusion from this is that Aria Hearing is not entirely honest. They tried to dissuade me from using Amplifon so that they could make more money. When that didn't work they tried to coerce $300 out of me. And they misrepresented what Amplifon would provide.
