      When we bought our home, we had an unlabeled propane tank that we had to do some research to verify who it belonged to. Once we found out it was Proulx's, we contacted them for service. We were then hit with a hard credit check, which affected our credit score. Contacted customer service multiple times, who all told us this was "normal" practice they do on all their customers. Verified with other propane companies this was not normal practice as a typical propane bill will only run a few hundred dollars and may possibly run a soft credit check, which wouldn't affect credit scores. No empathy towards the customer (us) on any of the calls. Quickly cancelled service and switched companies for a much better experience.

      As a prior standard practice Proulx Oil & Propane required credit checks for new accounts. This customer had three credit checks pulled for various reasons in a nine-month period and stated that the Proulx Oil & Propane credit check was the third to be pulled and the reason their credit score fell one hundred ten points. While a hard inquiry does impact credit scores, it typically only causes them to drop by about five points, according to credit-scoring company FICO®.

      Received a bill for low usage... lol over 700 dollars. Not for purchase of propane. Just a low use bill. I don't think so.... super high prices. Bad customer service. I'm glad I sold my house. Epitome of scum customer service and overpriced fuel.

      Customer is correct that they have received a bill for a ‘minimum usage charge’. This bill is for a valid charge that is assessed when the customer does not meet our minimum requirements for deliveries each year. The bill was for the review period of March 31, 2021 to April 1, 2022. This bill was issued for the period prior to the customer selling the home, and was sent out well before the home sold. These charges are typical for the propane industry, and Proulx is certainly not alone in charging them. Proulx also wishes to relate a situation that contributed to the assessment of this fee. Unfortunately, the customer engaged in unethical practices, telling a competitor that he owned the propane tank at the property when he did not. The customer was very well aware that he did not own that tank , and that is was (and still is) the property of Proulx. His incorrect statements  lead the other company to inappropriately fill our propane tank, which contributed to the fact that he did not have enough propane delivered from Proulx in his review period, which of course directly resulted in that fee described above.
