    I recently relocated to Salem, NH and found a small leak on a flange by my water heater. I called a local plumber, Donavan Plumbing and Heating and scheduled an appointment. When the Donvan showed up and stated that I was in need of cross-over water temperature mixer. He stated that legionnaires disease was prevalent, and that heating the water would prevent it from occurring.
    Donvan promptly installed the unit and the associated plumbing, It may have taken about 3 hours and upon completion wanted $1,500 for his efforts. I asked for a breakdown of the bill of parts and labor, which he could not provide on the spot -- but did follow-up with the paperwork the following day. It broke down to $962.50 for labor, $55 for his truck, $293.75 for parts, and finally $131.12 for overhead -- which totaled $1,442.37. First of all Salem has never had a case of Legionnaires disease, the cross over mixer valve was totally unnecessary, the parts were less than $100, and being charged for his truck and overhead is absurd. I gave him a $1,500 check, where is my change.
