On June 11, 2024, I had Bartlett Tree Experts come to my property to assess the condition of a tree in poor health. A BTE Arborist Representative, Tyler L****** deemed the tree a loss and suggested that it be removed. I asked to receive an estimate for BTE to complete the work. L***** insisted that BTE would be more expensive than other, more local companies. He then gave me a business card for another tree service company and explicitly asked that I mention his name specifically when receiving their estimate. L***** also collected soil samples to test for nutrient content. For this, I gave L***** a check written out to BTE for $150 (three tests at $50 each). Before leaving, I asked to still receive a written proposal from BTE to have on hand as well as a receipt for the soil tests. L***** said he would send both and that I would hear back from him within the week. On June 17, having not heard from L****** I sent him an email. I asked to receive the proposal and included in the email details that laid out the desired work as previously discussed in-person. On June 24, I received a response from L*****. Attached to his email was a proposal. However, it described performing work that was neither agreed upon nor discussed in-person or in my email. L***** concluded his email by saying that he would let me know when the soil sample results are in. On June 26, the check made on June 11 was debited from my banking account. On or about June 28, I received an invoice in the mail dated June 24 for the soil sample collections and tests. It did not make note of the check given to L***** on June 11 and implies an outstanding balance due to BTE. Since June 28, I have attempted on numerous occasions to call BTE but have consistently been directed to their voicemail inbox.
