I contacted Weltman to diagnose an issue with my boiler. The techs disassembled it, claimed the thermocouple was faulty, and quoted $500 to replace it. One of them suggested I could get a replacement for $11 at ********** and do it myself. Trusting their advice, I bought the part, only to realize it wasnt what I neededI had to replace the entire assembly for $150 instead. Mildly frustrating, but I managed. After replacing the assembly, the boiler still didnt work. Another tech suggested I replace the entire systemheater, boiler, and allfor a staggering $20,000. That wasnt an option for me, so I decided to go without hot water and heat for a couple of days while troubleshooting further. They also pitched a $26/month subscription that waived dispatch fees. Hoping to save money, I signed up. When the boiler still wouldnt work, I called them back to relight the pilot. Despite the subscription, they wanted $200 to light it! Worse, they scheduled the appointment for 12-4 PM but called at midnight.Frustrated, I contacted PSE&G, who quickly identified the real issue: my house wasnt getting gas. The boiler was fine. How did Weltman fail to check gas supply before misdiagnosing the problem?Hoping to at least get value from the subscription, I called about some electrical issues. Thats when I learned they had canceled my subscription the day I signed upeven though I explicitly said I wouldnt renew it after the first month. They now wanted $300 to send techs out.Weltman has been nothing but a headache. Overpriced quotes, incompetence, poor communication, and corporate runaround made every interaction ************** yourself a favor: go elsewhere. I have no idea how they maintain such high ratings.Business Response

My attic fan stopped working. I had a book that came in the mail called Best Pick Reports - Quality Home Services Guide. I found and called Weltman. I requested a free estimate. The tech came that afternoon. He told my husband that the cost would be $1,653. My husband asked to see his tablet to see a breakdown of the cost. The tech refused to show it to him. My husband called me at work and put the tech on. He said that he needs to change the motor, the thermostat and that there is a new code that requires him to add an on/off switch my the fan. My husband again asked for a breakdown which was not provided. The tech tried to charge us for the service call. I told him it was booked as a free estimate. He replayed the phone conversation which clearly indicated that I requested a free estimate. The tech left in a *********** husband and I called the office a number of times requesting a breakdown of the $1,653. This was in June. It is now November and we still haven't received ***** should be noted that the RETAIL price for the motor is $100 and the RETAIL price for the thermostat is $40.Business Response

Thank you for your feedback and for sharing your concerns with us.We truly value your input and appreciate the opportunity to address your question regarding job breakdowns.
As a flat-rate service provider, we aim to offer simplicity and transparency. We find that offering a fixed rate for our services allows our customers to know upfront what to expect, without the complexity of hourly billing or fluctuating costs. Before we begin any work, we make sure to thoroughly discuss the scope of the project, including the materials and time involved, so you have a clear understanding of what the flat rate covers. We believe this helps streamline the decision-making process and avoids any surprises down the line.
That said, we understand that some customers prefer a more detailed breakdown of the materials and labor involved. While we do not typically provide this level of detail in the initial pricing, we are more than happy to walk you through the specifics of any project if you need further clarification. Our goal is to ensure you're comfortable and confident with the services were providing.
Should you ever feel uncertain about any of the work being proposed, please remember that you are always welcome to decline our services at no cost to you. We strive to ensure that our customers feel no pressure and can make decisions with full confidence in the value we offer.
Thank you again for sharing your thoughts. We're always looking for ways to improve, and your feedback is invaluable in helping us continue to refine and enhance our approach. If you have any other questions or if theres anything else we can do for you, please dont hesitate to reach out.Customer Answer

Want to communicate to the BBB that we did not perform any work for this customer. We only provided customer with an estimate, which is strictly an estimate so if work was actually performed the cost could either go up or down. The estimate quoted was $1,644.16. The breakdown is as follows:
Materials 40% - $657.66
Labor 20% - $328.00
Overhead 20% - $328.00
Profit 20% - $328.00
Thank you,

Better Business Bureau:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me only because they finally provided a breakdown of the total estimate.Insofar as the materials total of $657.66 is concerned, I find it humorous. I know for a fact that the Retail cost for the motor is $100. This is the same brand as my fan. I also called the manufacturer to confirm that this is the correct motor. The Retail cost for the thermostat is $40. Again, the same brand as the fan. Using retail numbers (which is more than the amount the company would pay), that leaves $517.66 for the on/off switch which I was told that I needed because the code changed. I don't know how you justify this amount for an on/off switch. Incidentally, I was unable to find any code in my township that requires an on/off switch on the attic fan.
I accept the breakdown as a response because that is what I requested. Based on the information I provided above, this company will not be performing any work on my house.

I contacted the business for an AC malfunction. The technician for the business came and inspected the problem. He suggested a solution he felt was going to fix the problem. The solution was implemented and the system worked for 3 days after which it stopped working. I contacted the company again to send someone and they sent someone 3 days later. The new technician came and said he was unsure why the first fix did not work and that he would need to perform a second diagnostic (in addition to what was performed by the first technician) this second one he claimed was not covered by the warrantee of the first work and it would be 3x the price of the first diagnostic as it is more complex. He said the new diagnostic may not detect the problem and that a fix is not included in the fee. I am now looking at probably over ***** just to maybe detect the problem and probably as much to fix it. My main issues are:- This second work should be covered by the warranty as I was told that would fix the problem - The companys business model is clearly to try to get as much out of you as possible, taking advantage that you have a sunk cost (from the first few you paid) and that it is summer and that you will have to address the problem. They need to be investigated so that others do not face the same situationBusiness Response

This is a six year old system that was not installed by Weltman Home Services. We ran a leak test that didn't provide much outcome and instructed customer the next step would have to be more extensive which would involve draining the entire system. We offered him a $700 refund/credit toward the suggested work. He has declined that offer.Customer Answer

I am rejecting this response because:
In their initial assessment they said that implementing the solution they suggested, and I paid for, would solve the problem. It did not. I was mislead to think that. A 700 discount on a 2800 assessment that does not even include the repair is by no means an acceptable offer. I am requesting a refund of what was charged the first time. If they felt they couldnt fix the unit because it was installed by someone else they should have communicated that and I would have taken my business elsewhere. They were happy misleading me thinking that I would continue to say ok to all the additional assessments leveraging the fact that it is summer. Shame on them.

I contacted Weltman Home Services for my radiator in my home. It was not working due to electrical problem. I called Weltman Home Services they told me it would be $158.00 just for someone to come out. When the worker arrived I proceeded to show him the radiator he responded by saying he was a plumber...when indeed I asked for an electrician...they had already billed me the $158.00. He went on to flush the boiler. Than when he finished and was leaving I had to sign up for $19.99 monthly plan. Finally 2 days later an electrician arrived with his partner they looked at the radiator and said it would be approximately $568.00 and he would pick up the material...the down payment was $200. When he arrived on 2/3/24 he came alone on this day. He began saying he was gonna start the work and my bill now was $692.00. I told him that wasn't the agreement. He became very irate he began screaming in my home. I live alone and in fact I'm a **** victim so became terrified. I ran upstairs to call Weltman home services and my S.O. I was literally scared to come out my room...but I did. When he heard me on the phone (speaker) he said I'm not gonna do nothing and slammed my glass door. He never showed me the material and he left the thermostat on that goes with the radiator. If I had not of checked that could have caused a fire in my home. This electrician (***) was very unprofessional...he was yelling in my home..stomping back & forth all because I told him I didn't have the $692.00 when the agreement was $200 for the down payment. I was on the phone with the receptionist explaining to her I'm scared he's literally in my house screaming. I requested an electrician and you send a plumber and I was automatically charged $158.00. The plumber said the banging in the other radiators would stop banging and it didn't. Therefore, they deducted $158.00 for a service I didn't request. They will tell you one thing on the phone get your banking info than say something else.Business Response

2 weeks ago I called Weltman home services to look into a wiring issue coming from my doorbell. I originally called 911 because it smelled like it was burning and was making a horrible buzzing ********** advised me to call an electrician and flip the circuit breaker off until I could make an appointment with an electrician. The electrician came a couple of weeks ago, he checked all the circuit breakers. He checked the wiring. Said there are absolutely no issues. He came back upstairs, and said, its only a faulty doorbell and explained to me what about the doorbell and the innards are making it stick. He replaced the doorbell and said, see it works now.! I was charged $248 to change a doorbell, so be it, I figured at least everything is working now. I wasnt aware of what this was going to cost until after it was done! Two weeks later the doorbell is stuck again and we hear that same buzzing sound and smell that horrible burning smell. I ran down to the circuit breakers and shut the doorbell breaker off. I called Weltmans and they sent another service person over today. He went down to the breaker box and said it appears that the wiring is so old it keeps shorting out! Its clearly faulty and needs to be completely replaced! He advised me of the cost of rewiring the doorbell, which was outrageous, and in his opinion, the smartest thing to do would be to just purchase a battery, operated doorbell and keep this circuit off . I agreed with him and thats what Im going to do. However, I shouldve only paid for a service call, when the first fella came!! That is not nearly $248.. the first service guy should have recognized that the wiring was faulty and I shouldve received the same advice and I shouldve paid Simply for a service call, not $248 for a $10 doorbell and removing and replacing two screws!! Which isnt the issue at all!!Business Response

I filed my initial complaint on February 24, **************************************************** and said he would be refunding me the $766.00 I paid. I NEVER received a check. I think this is a tactic they use so they can respond to the BBB complaints and act like they addressed the issue. I'm filing an additional complaint for this reason as they responded to my complaint here claiming they were sending me a check. This is one of the WORST businesses I have ever worked with. STAY FAR AWAY!Business Response

I had a heating and air conditioning unit installed in 2020. Since its installation it has broken down repeatedly. Over 15 service calls. Unit broke down again last week. I have a warranty for service but it is not being honored because they claim the part is not part of the warranty. They will be charging me $362 to repair a unit which has not worked properly since its installation.Business Response

Dear BBB
We are in receipt of the complaint from **************. We do recognize several warranty issues that occurred shortly after the new HVAC system was installed. We did compensate ************** with 3 (three) years of *************** Partner Plan coverage, a $970.00 value.
The most recent concern involves the consumer's failure to follow the manufacturer's recommended maintenance procedures. On September 27, 2022, ************** informed ************ that his outside condensing unit and inside filter were totally clogged with debris. ************** elected not to clean the outdoor condenser, which is not covered under warranty.
Failure to clean the outdoor unit causes increased operating temperatures, which did cause his recent mechanical failure. ************** efused to pay to have the capacitor replaced. Every time we went to customers home the technician noted that the filter and equipment were very dirty and cleaning/changing was recommended. We explained that failure to change the filter and keep the unit clear of dirt and debris will cause the system to work harder which can cause the capacitor to fail as well as void the warranty. This has all been noted by our technicians and explained to the customer on multiple occasions.Customer Answer

I am rejecting this response because:
The system has had 15 going on 16 breakdowns, not due to lack of cleaning but a failure of the system to work properly. There have been many problems with the air conditioning and heating system. A three year old system should not break down 15 times.

I had a monthly service contract with Weltman. They came on 2/16/2023 to provide maintenance on my furnace, which was working prior to their visit and was told it was working fine during their assessment. They wanted to change out my thermostat because some buttons weren't responsive, but I'm capable of doing that myself. On the morning of 2/18/2023 furnace was not turning on. After installing a brand new thermostat that also wasn't triggering the furnace to turn on, we found that the wires connecting the thermostat to the furnace had been decoupled and the cap put back in place. As soon as we coupled the wires, the furnace turned on. It makes no sense that they reported the furnace in good working condition and then when it wasn't working, we found decoupled wires that were the root cause of the problem. This is completely unacceptable.I would like to be refunded for the **************** contract charge.Business Response

I had requested the services of M/s Weltman Home Services **** to replace the light bulbs on a Chandlier at home. I had provided all the inputs in my phone call on the service request clearly stating it is a 20 foot tall ceiling and need to replace bulbs. I was informed on the phone that the electrician will come with the ladder and install the bulbs. I was also told that there will be a $89 service fee which will be waived if I agree to get the work done. But the electrician came in today and to my shock he said he does not have the ladder and to bring the ladder it will cost $500 - $1100. I was not given any indication about this high cost over phone otherwise I would have declined the service visit. Also the company is asking me to pay $89 for doing nothing and threatening me that the billing department will go to collections. This is totally unfair as I was give misinformation over phone.Business Response

I have a had a service plan with Weltman Home Services sine 2014. Every time I contact them to come a service my heating system, water heater and anything else that I pay monthly for, they never follow through. No one shows up or calls to cancel. A service tech was supposed to come and service my heating unit on 10.12.2022, no one showed up or even called to cancel. When I spoke with ******* the *********** Rep, he said they called the day before but could not give me any idea what number was called (no call received/email or text message). I asked to speak with a manger I was told he left for the day at 3:45pm and would call me another day. This is not the first time that this happened and all I get is excuses from people. I want to cancel my service plan, but was informed that my warranty would be null and void, which was not explained to me by **** Weltman in 2014. This company is scamming customers for work that will never be completed. I want me plan cancelled and reimbursed for October 2022 charges.Business Response
