I had hired Intelligent Paving and Masonry Co. (They also go by Newstone Paving and Masonry) to do some paving work on a verbal contract of $8,500. A person named **** (can be reached at ************ and ************) came over and started the work. After two days work, we realized that there is more work to be done after paving. This new work included some landscaping, cleanup, repair, lot of new masonry work, and chimney repair, in my backyard. **** had already received a full payment of $9300 in cash for the work he came for. The verbal contract for new work was for $10000. At this point, **** decided to hold on finishing the first job because the work on the new contract would spoil some of it. He also requested some money in advance so that new work can start. I gave them an advance of $4700 (via check) on May 3rd. I had gone to *** assuming they would continue the work. A few hours later, my wife called saying nobody was working outside. When I called ****, he said, he would be back the next morning with labor and materials. Three weeks on, he never showed up for work. Meanwhile the check got cleared. Later, I realized that they had also taken all my personal tools (2 wheelbarrows ($400 each), a pick, a shovel, several hammers, a mallet, and a large brush broom). They also stole 7 bags of super sand ($35 each bag) and a pallet of pavers ($600). The work of my first contract (paid fully) is also not finished because they decided to run away with advance money for the next contract, my tools, and material. They left a big mess in front of my house and backyard. **** broke the paved area in my back yard.He occasionally picks up my call and makes promise that he will come or send someone to start the work. But nothing ever happened. He kept telling me stories of his mother-in-laws death and her dead body being sent to ** for cremation. Its been a month.
