On Dec 7th,2023 I reached out to the apartment complex The Grand at **** new luxury apartments being built. I was able to speak with the contractor about the property then scheduled to see it with my wife a couple of weeks later. I saw the property with my wife. We fell in love with it and I left a 300$ deposit out of 1500$ with the intentions on giving the rest the following week. However, I was called to the military and wasnt able to bring it until Friday. They told me that they had to give up the apartment to someone else and to come and pick up my 300$. When I came back from the military I reached out to see if there were anymore apartments available the lady ******* said no just the ones for 2995 3bdrm. My friend had schedules to see the apartments the following week and asked me could I go with her. Once there now all of a sudden 3 units were available. ******* attitude the entire time was very unapproachable. She was even short with my friend who was actively apartment hunting as well. She was also very very rude to my wife making smart comments every time she asked her questions about the property. The other Spanish couple that was there viewing the property she was very nice to, talking to them in Spanish and smiling and myself she was very cold and nasty. Needless to say I applied for unit 311 that had all of a sudden became available. I put down a 2050$ deposit and all the documentation needed. Not only do I get almost 4k in VA disability I also work as a longshoremen so I make about 9-10k a month with is more than 3x the rent which is 2795$/month. My cars are paid off and I have good credit score yet I was denied and I know 2 people that were approved in the same building that makes way less Than I do. When I ask the reason why I was denied they said not enough income which isnt true, and they wont let me speak to someone higher than them. I truly believe it had to do with discrimination because Im in the military and African American.
