I had my 1990 mercury grand marquis towed to Midas in Englishtown on April 28, 2025. I have videos of my car running prior to being delivered to Midaswithout any smoke or any issues. I sent my card to Midas for a charging issue because something was putting a charge on my battery whilethe car was off. They suggested a few things be done to the car to make the car roadworthy. I agreed with their understanding and their suggestions because they’re supposed to be professionals. The original charge was $3800. Which at first I thought was pretty steep for a car that was 1990 and only worth about two to $5000. I agreed for them to do the services within mind the car would be better in reference to condition then I gave it to them. Upon supposed completion the day I picked the car up I was told the car was smoking so bad that they were not able to leave it running for too long. The gentleman behind the counter told me it’s because of old gas, which confuse me because when I ran the car at home, there was old gas in it without any smoke. He suggested I put gas in the car and drive the car for a while. While driving white plumes smoke were coming from the back of the car so that I could not see the cars behind me. When I got the car home, which is only three minutes away from the shop I noticed that there were smoke coming from under the engine and thick clouds of smoke coming from the exhaust pipe. I tried calling and they purposely didn’t answer the phone, knowing it was me calling. I know this was purposeful because when I arrive, they were sitting next to the phone. They agreed to tow the car back to the shop. The next thing I hear from them that I need $8300 more work done, and that a full diagnostics was not done on the car because they didn’t have enough gas, which is ridiculous. I specifically asked for a full diagnostic scan of the car to know if this car was worth investing into. I can’t believe they’re trying to charge me more for breaking my car.
