We hired gbc as he was suggested by a neighbor and is a neighbor himself (we are new to the neighborhood). He was hired for a job regarding 1) our shed 2) replacing rotted wood with pavers, 3) fixing a spot on the house an animal had chewed, 4) work in our crawl space. He said the job would take 3 days, and after about a month, about 10% of one of those jobs is done yet he took almost $2,000 from us for “materials” aka, stuff from his house that he wasn’t using. When asked to provide receipts, he said “I don’t do receipts” even though we knew there were no receipts because our money wasn’t going to materials and he never intended to get things or finish the work. He put a wall up that doesn’t even touch to the ceiling so there is no barrier to weather, animals, bugs, etc. There was every excuse in the book why he wasn’t doing the work and we literally 3 doors down from him - how hard can it be to do work 100 ft from your house and what a slap in the face when the person you paid money to do work tells you 3 times they can’t come work bc they’re getting surgery just for you to walk outside your house and see them there, not getting surgery, yet carrying on with your money and not doing the job. He is involved in some other dangerous, illegal things which is why he is unreliable and unable to get the work done and the work he does do is shotty. But these sketchy matters make him being there dangerous on top of the fact that he is going to take your money and never buy anything with it or complete the work leaving your house in worse and more dangerous condition than it started and needing the spend money on someone else to come out and finish. Do not hire for anything at all!!!!

Mid July of ***************************** contract with ************************************** of GBC Home Improvements. He was recommended by the next door neighbor, *****************************. He swiftly completed a substandard fencing job for $4,000. The gate sagged and some panels are already coming undone less than 2 months after. He then quoted me $6400 for installing the kitchen cabinets for which I had 90% of materials. See contractor's Invoice attached. He seemed reliable and engaged in the work while I was present in the premises. As soon as school started (I'm a teacher) he stopped coming to work regularly. He cited illnesses, deaths, births, etc and constantly promised to get the work done. I held up until mid October, when I realized he was half completing substandard work and asking for more money (see pictures of backsplash with random 'patterns' sagging doors, incomplete ceiling etc. Mid October, he abandoned the job completely. Upon searching for help to finish the job. We uncovered gross negligence and incompetence in the quality and quantity of work. (For instance, he confirmed ************* and appliances were ready and installed for the counter stone to be installed. The new contractor found the wrong materials and methods under the sink, the dishwasher was not connected and the electrical cables severed. The outlets had no cables attached, behind the backsplash he didn't use the correct paneling, the kitchen window was not properly installed/insulated, etc.). *********************** admitted to most of the mistakes, cited a myriad of personal excuses and walked away with my money leaving my 13 year old and myself to live in a construction zone for 4 months. Both my daughter and myself suffer from depression and this has been a really dark time in our lives.I will be submitting a small court claim to recover some of the $3800 I spent plus costs to fix the defective fence.
