My company became a state sponsor for this company after hearing from former colleagues that the parent organization, United States of America Pageants (business entity name of Miss United States of America L.L.C) was a values-based organization that supported women in the pageant industry. Initially, I was optimistic about the opportunity to support the mission of an organization that I believed shared similar values to mine. I believed the collaboration would be mutually beneficial. Within a few months, my optimism faded after discovering that their business practices starkly contrasted what they claim to value. As a woman in business, I have not experienced more disrespect and unprofessionalism from anyone than I had with this company. From misleading marketing packages to gaslighting, the state director and founder of Glamour Universe Corp used every method she could to tarnish her organizations reputation. She tried to reprimand me for refusing to allow the conversations I had with sponsorship beneficiaries to be monitored by their parent company, which is a practice that I never consented to nor would consent to because of the high risk of privacy violation and breaches. It was revealed afterwards by the state director that titleholders had contractual restrictions for communicating with sponsors and each other in group chats. I was also told by a titleholder that the state director explicitly instructed local and state titleholders not to work with me following the dispute. After issues went unresolved for 3 weeks before I made the decision to email the parent company. The national director claimed that the issues that we experienced were due to company policy. Which led me to question what kind of policies would this organization have to create such troubling circumstances? I truly hope that my review will serve as an opportunity for both companies to improve future business operations and aid in the professional development training of leadership.
