On June 13, 2022 I went into Bergen Optometry for an eye exam. During said eye exam, ********************************* tried to talk me into an eye dilation procedure. She informed me that if I didn't get it done within 30 days, my insurance company would charge THEM a fee as this dilation was mandatory. I thought this sounded very suspicious and like a ploy to bill more, so I checked with my insurance company and they confirmed that was NOT true. This along with their negative ****** reviews made me very skeptical of continuing to do business with them so I asked them to provide me with my prescription on 3 occasions. As of today's date, September 21, 2022 I have yet to receive ANY prescription.Further complicating the matter, for some reason, **************** insisted on adding bifocals and giving me a dual prescription I never asked for. I asked them on 3 occasions (1st time over the phone with **** the salesperson & then via text on 7/15/22 & 7/19/22; I have screenshots) to provide me my prescription (WITHOUT bifocals). **** the salesperson insisted she could not do that as whatever **************** wrote was final. I have that on a voicemail she left me. Still, I have yet to receive any prescription (with or without bifocals). I filed a grievance with Aetna, my insurance company highlighting my experience & they blatantly lied to Aetna saying they had provided me a prescription and without bifocals. Neither is true & I would love it if Bergen Optometry/*************** could prove their claims that they gave me my prescription otherwise, I would think this is paramount to insurance fraud (because they charged my insurance company, did not deliver a prescription & then lied about it). **************** also denied her stating an eye dilation was mandatory. Of course she did! Unfortunately, the latter will remain my word against hers unless more patients come forward with similar experiences.

Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention. As we have communicated to you in the past, we had a typo in your email address, which we did resolve as soon as we were made aware of this issue. In regards to your complaints, ****************** does not make dilation mandatory. However, it is in the patients best interest for us to view the retina (the back of the eye), in order to ensure the best ocular health. We get paid for the eye exam either way, but morally and ethically we always encourage dilation to be comprehensive. The dilation is part of an annual eye exam.Once again, it is not mandatory, but it is strongly recommended.Whenever a prescription is written, it typically includes the reading prescription, if the doctor finds one. This allows the patient to choose if they want to use that part of their prescription. In other words, the patient can fill it as distance only or reading only or a combination of the two. Patients typically appreciate having all of their own data, so that they can make the choice that suits them best.We hope this explanation helps to resolve your concerns. We apologize for any misunderstanding and inconvenience.Sincerely,************************************, OD
