The issues with **** began in September 2024. I am a student in an online teaching certification program (7 classes - 3 credits per class). Each of these classes cost around $2,500. I had a meeting with the **** of the department (******* ******) in October. I brought my complaints regarding how the course was being conducted which included but is not limited to; the instructor (Zandile Nkabinde) not grading assignments, not being able to provide coherent responses to questions (her email responses typically made no sense and she often seemed confused by what was being asked of her and she regularly ignored questions), the instructor taking upwards of 20 days to respond to emails, discrepancies between the syllabus and blackboard, a strong disconnect in the instructor's ability to communicate and host a course in a virtual setting, changes made to the syllabus during the course with no announcement, etc. Overall, just a total lack of integrity in the way the course is being conducted. It costs a lot of money to take the courses within this program and I expect that there would be some type of standard for performance for not only the instructor but for the administrators when students are seeking their assistance. My money was spent on a service that I feel is not being provided to me at a level appropriate for a grad course. This instructor should be able to clearly answer questions, grade assignments in a timely manner, and respond to students in a timely manner.I have reached out to multiple administrators including the ********* Office and University Senate. They each referred me back to the formal grievance procedure which allows an exorbitant amount of time for the instructor to respond (ten days into the NEXT SEMESTER) By then, the class will have ended. The general consensus seems to be that if my grade is high, I shouldn't complain about how the instructor is conducting the course. As of now, administration has started ignoring my emails completely.
