      I am writing about predatory billing by the West Essex OBGYN office. I have been seeing Dr. Tara . for many years before COVID. There was a several years break due to COVID. I made my appointment for a yearly checkup as usual. I received a call confirming my appointment but no additional fee for services was discussed. When I got to the office I was not informed about additional fees either. I was made to sign a piece of paper (among multiple forms that I had to fill out) stating that I am responsible for the doctor’s fees ONLY IF my insurance does not cover them. I received no additional services other than a regular cervical, vaginal, pelvic, and breast screening that is covered by ********.

      After my appointment I received an additional bill for $205 for extra preventative services. In addition I was billed as a new patient and not an existing patient which I believe to be at a higher rate. When I called the doctor’s billing department they refused to adjust the fee. The exact same story happened to several of my friends who also are patients of this doctor’s office. They are willing to provide written statements confirming that if needed.

      I feel that I was treated unfairly since I was not informed that there is now a fee of $205 for what appears to be a regular check up. I was under the assumption that everything is covered by my insurance since no additional services were performed. Had I known about the fee I would have shopped around and gone to a cheaper doctor or refused additional services, since I am a senior citizen and live on a small income from my social security and some pension.
