On 01/31/2022 My son received emergency surgery at Morristown *************** This hospital is in network with my insurance. My husband noticed signs posted in the emergency **** stating our right to have an in network provider, as some providers on call may be out of network. When we inquired about finding out the network status of the care team, and to ensure they were in network were were informed, whoever is on call will be on the team regardless of network status. This was an emergency surgery, so we didn't have the opportunity or the ability to make that decision. Anesthesia Associates of Morristown was a part of that care team, which is out of network. Now, a collections law firm has placed a levy on my account as well and threatened to garnish my wages. I've disputed this with the law firm on the basis of the following: This is a HIPPA violation in **, the bill is not compliant with the no surprises act that was enforced on 01-02-22 as well as illegal "balance billing" practices in **. The care given was in an emergency situation, we had no choice of in network providers, and the cost is exuberant based on the services rendered and the emergency basis. The law firm representing Anesthesia Associates, closed the dispute within a week without addressing my claims, and leaving no notes on my file. When I question if my debt was bought by this law firm, I was informed they were retained to represent them. I will continue to dispute these deceptive and illegal practices. Anesthesia Associates of Morristown, is the only anesthesiologist for this medical center, this seems to be intentional to extort exuberant amounts of money from insurance companies as well as individuals. My insurance paid this company over $3500.00, after my deductible was met. The company being out of network is by design.

      Business Response

      Date: 02/01/2024

      Good Afternoon BBB,

The balance is related to the patient's co-insurance and there is no wrongdoing by the anesthesiologist or HSS billing. I contacted the patient's mom and explained the billing process and her responsibility for the balance includes the fact that a provider is not allowed to forgive the deductible and or co-insurance without proof of financial hardship. She stated that she is experiencing financial hardship, and she will email me a letter with proof of the household income. However, we did not receive her email.

      Warm Regards,

      Noor Fouad

      HSS Billing Representative

I had 2 children at Morristown Hospital, which was in-network for me. But, while there, Anestesia Associates charge me for out-of-network care each time when everything else at the hospital was in-network - also mind you they are the only provider that Morristown Hospital uses for this, so Im not sure how that is out-of-network. One of the times was an emergency C-section and under the circumstances I could not have acknowledged an out-of-network charge. AND I never recall agreeing to it any of the other times. They accepted my insurance payments for all the bills but are trying to collect on multiple balances that are higher costs than other providers in the area. They have sued me Morris County Civil court. YET, I was never officially served papers and never got to represent myself and have been enduring bank account levy after ****. Even now, I have 3 children to feed and my account is negative due to the money they are trying to take from my account. Honestly it would be wonderful to try and resolve this, but mainly I would love for others to be warned. When you look up Anesthesia Associates of Morristown to try and find out how to contact them you are immediately hit with 100s of reviews from other people in my shoes. I have seen nothing but bad reviews stating the same as I am - terrible care, awful customer service, never being properly informed, over billing, not accepting monthly payments, etc. Yet Morristown hospital continues to use them exclusively even with all of the patients who are disappointed in service, billing, etc. I dont understand how this can keep happening. My 3rd child I just had, we went to a different hospital just to avoid Anesthesia Associates of Morristown. And I will tell you it was a much better experience from a patient point of view and from a billing point of view. Also, I was billed a fraction of the cost for better service.
