I had an ongoing relationship with CLM Advisors for two separate services: business strategy for my company and tax preparation. I used their business strategy services for two years and their tax preparation services for one year. In December 2024, CLM Advisors presented me with a contract to handle my 2024 tax preparation. I declined their initial proposal, as it did not include any pricing, and later received a second proposal that was 50% higher than the previous year with no cap on the cost. I decided to decline their services and hired a new accountant. I sent an email on 12/30/2024 requesting to terminate both agreements and halt the ACH payment. Unfortunately, my email was sent too late, and a $4,300 ACH payment was withdrawn from my account. I requested a refund for the amount, but instead, CLM Advisors provided vague invoices attempting to justify the charge. They claimed they had performed tax work for my 2024 taxes, but no work product was provided, and the invoices referred to services that should have been covered under my original fixed-fee agreement. While I would like to pursue legal action, CLM Advisors’ contract mandates that all disputes must go through JAMS arbitration, which requires a $2,000 filing fee—half of the amount in dispute. This has placed me in a difficult position. I believe CLM Advisors has acted deceitfully and unethically by withholding funds that do not rightfully belong to them. I am frustrated by their actions and will be sharing my experience with others to caution them about CLM Advisors’ practices.
