      Business Response

      Date: 12/26/2024

      Dear Better Business Bureau,

I spoke with an agent at BBB and the Agent directed me to send an email to re-open the complaint ID: ********. We appreciate you bringing this matter to our attention. We would like to address the complaint from ******* ******** regarding her dissatisfaction with the investigative services we provided concerning the death of her son.

      Service Overview and Efforts Made

Our agency undertook the investigation with empathy for *** ********** loss, despite the challenges inherent in such sensitive cases. Two of our agents were dedicated to her case, which explains her communication with multiple individuals as we sought to gather comprehensive information. We made significant efforts to uncover details that *** ******** felt were lacking in the police reports, but we understand that she was not satisfied with the findings regarding her son's death.

      Clarification on Service Limitations

It is essential to clarify that, as outlined in our service agreement, we cannot guarantee specific outcomes in investigations. We informed *** ******** both in person and through our agreement that while we strive to provide thorough investigations, results can vary based on numerous factors beyond our control.

      Cost and Time Considerations

*** ******** paid $1,000 for our services, which is a fraction of the typical cost for such investigations, generally priced around $4,000. This reduced fee was offered out of compassion for her situation. Our office is based in Albuquerque, and we traveled approximately five hours round trip to **** to conduct the investigation, which was factored into the time and resources allocated to her case. Most investigations require extensive time to establish a foundation and gather facts. In this instance, travel time consumed half of the 10 hours covered by her payment, leaving limited hours for actual investigative work at the site. Our hourly rate is $100; thus, we utilized *** ********** payment accordingly.

      Communication and Conclusion

Throughout the process, we maintained open lines of communication with *** ********. Unfortunately, due to time constraints and obstacles encountered while working with authorities, we had to conclude our efforts without achieving all desired outcomes. We genuinely sympathize with *** ********** situation and regret any distress this has caused her. We hope this response clarifies our position and the context surrounding our services.

      Thank you for your understanding.

      Investigation Summary

On October 4th, 2023, we received the case from ******* ********* On October 25th we attempted make phone contact with **** **, the **** ***** *******, and any local security companies with information on **** ********* We were unable to speak with ******* ****** ******* the responding officer, because he was in training. We called **** ** another 5 times between October and December. On December 13th, 2023, we travelled to **** **** ************ We spoke to **** ****** ********; they confirmed that the company had overseen security at the *** *** ****** Their duties included perimeter checks to look for signs of break in. They stated that they could not give us any info on whether **** had been employed with them at any point.  We spoke with the other security companies locally by phone while in town, and none of them were able to give any information on *****

Stop into the **** police department where they informed me that the reason that it had taken so long to find his body was due to the placement of the body, and there were trees in the way blocking it. They did not regularly enter the property; they did sporadic checks on the perimeter fence due to previous break-ins.  While there we also spoke with the new owner of the *** *** ****** They were currently doing renovations, but he let us go see where the body had been found. Due to the renovations, the trees that had previously been blocking a clear view from the entrance of the *** *** ***** were no longer there. He hadn’t heard anything about ***** other than that he had been homeless at the time of his death.

We then spoke with *** **** in person at the **** ***** *******; where they informed us that he had met **** only once and that he had spoken with him about getting a job and potentially accessing ** ********. Unfortunately, he never spoke to or saw **** again after that. He did reach out to his contact at the ** who informed him that it appeared that **** had a criminal history that involved illegal drugs. He also stated that he had never seen **** with drugs or alcohol, but that the combination of drugs found in ****** system was a very common one for users.

We will communicate with ******* ******** on where we stand with her case.
