Management is horrible they illegally evict tenants and retaliate against you for following your lease rules to closely when they break it. Staff at deacon property are so rude and disrespectful they would throw a pregnant lady out on the street that paid rent on time no problems for 4 years straight. Horrible place. Don't recommend to anyone that is looking for stability

Despite the fact that I was under a valid month-to-month contract, Deacon applied considerable pressure for me to agree to a new lease under unfavorable terms compared to my existing agreement, which I requested Deacon honor. Their response is to (reluctantly) honor the existing contract and then promise to send me an eviction notice.Deacon's response to my request to honor the terms of my existing agreement is worth sharing: "Thanks for your response and your time on this. As we discussed, the automatic increase as the contract goes Month to Month is in lieu of ** renewing your lease under any other terms. Weve tried our level best to work with you on a compromise as youve pushed back on the new terms we proposed for your lease renewal. That said, the offer I note below is our final offer. As I understand it, youre not willing to agree to that offer, and Im sorry thats the case. In turn, we will be terminating your lease effective July 31, 2023. We will send a formal 30 Day Notice of Termination next week but I wanted to make sure were on the same page ahead of that and to provide as much advanced notice as possible to help you expedite finding a new place. "We didnt increase the rent in June in good faith in acknowledgement of our active negotiations to renew your lease under our proposed terms and to leave space for ** to come to agreement. The rent for the final month of your lease (July) will be $950.25 in line with the original contract regardless."Note that closing statement: "in line with the original contract"; that's all I had asked from the beginning.

*************: Your current lease has expired, which triggers an inevitable check-in and discussion on terms for a lease renewal. You have been presented with multiple options for renewing your lease. Allowing the contract to go month-to-month under the existing terms of the contract was never an option that was presented to you. 3 members of our staff have spent the last month trying to work with you productively and to find a good compromise for renewing your lease and keeping you as a tenant at the property. Your refusal to accept any of those proposed terms has led ** to understand that you aren't interested renewing your lease. Again, allowing the contract to go month-to-month under the existing terms was never an option. The only other option that leaves at this time is a notification a lease termination. Because we are unable to come to an agreement on the lease renewal, we have notified you that your lease is terminating effective July 31, 2023. This is not a eviction. It's an agreement to disagree and move on accordingly. If we're missing something, please let ** know. Thank you.

I apparently misunderstood that Deacons intent in terminating my lease was to evict me from their property once the lease has been terminated. But Deacon is clear in their response here that terminating my lease is *not* an eviction, meaning I am not being evicted after the lease has been terminated on July 31st and can stay in the apartment after that date. This is great news. Thank you.

Mr: ****** Thank you for your response. In line with the 30-Day notice of Lease Termination that we have provided you, we expect you to move from the apartment and turn in keys to our office on or before the 31st of July.

So my original complaint still stands. Despite Deacons shameless prevarication in their first response (which I chose to ignore), it is Deacon who refused to work with me on a mutually agreeable solution. And, of course, we have a valid month-to-month contract in place (Deacon admits as much, since thats the contract they are terminating on July 31st). Absent an agreed-upon new contract, I simply asked Deacon to honor the existing contract. Rather than doing that, they are terminating it and throwing me out of the apartment. This allows Deacon to get a new tenant under a new, higher-price contract (which I am sure they will pressure that tenant to revise in the future). No tenant in a Deacon-managed property is secure in their home. Buyer beware.

Deacon Property Management posted a 30 day notice on 9/23 to vacate the property. The property manager provided no reason. When contacting the property manager to ask for assistance, an extension to look for a new place or to pay a higher rent cost, they provided no assistance. It turns out that they wanted to increase the rent. This is not a good company. They dont serve to help their tenants. They dont care about people. They dont work with people to help them. They could care less if you have no where to move and become homeless. They have no empathy for people. They need to understand that the housing market is difficult in ***********, **. And, they need to work with people so they dont become homeless. Especially if their tenants have disabilities, or families. They need the state or overseeing business like BBB to look into how theyre conducting business. They need help so they can be a better business. I would not recommend them at all.

Dear ********************: Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention. We're sorry for the experience you had and any miscommunications that *** have occurred. The property sold to a new owner who wanted to renovate the entire property - including extensive renovations to all the apartment interiors. Notices of Lease Termination were given to all tenants over time to allow for the apartment renovations to occur. We are always happy to offer existing tenants the opportunity to rent another unit in the same community. We are also glad to work with our tenants to help them find alternative housing. We are sorry that you didn't receive better communication when you reached out to our office after you received the notice of lease termination. We hope you were able to find a good new home and we hope we'll have the opportunity to work with you again and earn your trust back in the future.

Youre welcome for bringing this attention to your matter. There were no miscommunications as you mentioned. The property manager we were talking with was very clear that the property had to be vacated with no reason provided. The property manager said that you dont have to provide any reason. There was attempt made to speak with someone higher for resolution and the property manager disconnected the call. The property manager said that the owner didnt want any involvement as he was involved because Deacon Property provided no information as to why there was a request to vacate. The property was posted on Zillow and new tenants moved in with no signs of renovations. I would argue for Deacon to provide photos of the renovations after moving out to prove that your statement is true. The lease termination and communications were not delivered timely and the communication with the property manager was a bad experience each time. Why would we want to rent from you when you with all of these grievances. I would recommend that Deacon Property be investigated by the BBB because there are numerous complaints about the company and their staff. No comment on if we found a home or not as that was the grievance brought to your attention at the time we received your request to vacate. Even when bringing the situation to your attention, there was no compassion. I would not recommend anyone renting from Deacon Property

The property I live on since 01/2014 recently sold, the property is now managed by Deacon properties LLC. This sale took place this past ***** ** bolster the value of the property we signed a new. month to month lease with a rental increase just prior. it was the largest increase we had seen at the property in those almost 9 years. We were told of course that the new owner had no plans of increasing the rent, well of course people are starting to see notices of increase. Now that was just for your info. On Sep 6th, Tue after Labor day, A notice appeared on the front door stating a new roof was being installed. It was un-necessary at that point since the banging and racket started 2 hours earlier at 730 in the morning, no mention of gas shut off was on the notice, so when tenants found they were without gas (our apartments have all gas appliances) of course they wondered why "did they get my payment etc.". This led to ******* on site and seeing total disarray. of course they red tagged the whole site and pulled gas meters. 6 units mine included were shut off on that Wednesday, the day before a notice was emailed stating that the gas would be shut off. Because of the lack of vision, and basic management skills I sit here writing this at 11:04 on the 28th of Sept. 22 days since gas shut off with no cooking, or hot water and no cooling in the apartment. Oh I forgot to mention living in this apartment with me is my Mother 83 years old with a heart condition. So... Is this good management company. not at all.
