  I recently had my daughter assessed. I had my son at a Sylvan in Arizona from 2017-2019 for high school home work help. I had my second son attend in ******** for 2020, but with Covid it was tough on us. My daughter is struggling in Calculus, and we are living in *** ******. The young woman who answered the phone was great and took my information. No one called me back. I finally called again and was able to talk to the owner and she was rude, curt, and basically inept. She wanted me to pay for a full assessment for my 12th grader because she "might be missing some of the basics of math". My daughter is top 25 in her class. There was 4 weeks left until graduation. How do you think she is missing math basics? Thankfully one of the colleges was offering free tutoring.

  The facts of this submission are a bit inaccurate. The customer spoke to someone in our contact **********************, not a local person. The notes in the customer's profile didn't provide all of the details that this customer has listed, therefore if there was any additional contact with this customer, the conversation may have provided more of what was said in her initial contact with the center. As far as having the customer pay for an assessment, that is correct. All of our studennts are required to complete a comprehensive assessment in the subject we are helping with, that is how we generate our ****** plans. She would have had to pay for that service - so therefore, she is correct in that statement. Not having met with this parent or assessing the student, I would never tell a parent that she "mighy be missing some of the basics of math". Again, that is not somehting that I would say specifically, not knowing the student of theri history. I am glad that this cusomter was able to find another resource for her daughter and by now, this student is hopefully very successful in moving forward with her college classess. Sadly, we are not able to help all students, but are willing to work with parents to come up with viable solutions to help. Again, the consumers submittal did not provide all of the facts as they would have or should have been presented.

  I wanted to give a huge THANK YOU to the team at Sylvan Learning East ABQ! My wife and I had our son's annual IEP meeting at the beginning of March, and every person involved made the comment that our son has been a completely changed kid since Winter Break (addition of Sylvan in learning curriculum). They are noticing changes not only in the closure of his grade level gap, but they also communicated our son's improvement in confidence, helping other students with their work, and his independence. We had friends tell us that we would receive this effect from Sylvan, but it is AMAZING and rewarding to actually hear it from his educators.
