On 11/20/2024, payment in the amount of $10,623.56 was made to Engel Coating, Inc. for the exterior painting of our home. ***** used Super Paint for the exterior of our house. His first estimate was for elastomeric paint, but we discussed the differences between the two and he recommended the super paint since the house had previously been painted with elastomeric. Upon completion of the painting, I expressed my concerns about the pinholes and uneven finish on the exterior walls. I asked if they had used a primer and 2 coats of paints as proposed on the estimate. He said they had. What was actually used as a primer was a conditioner. I asked him if the elastomeric would have covered the pinholes and other voids and he said it would have. I reminded him that I had asked what he recommended between the two paints and he said the super paint. He didn’t deny the pinholes and other voids, but said he really didn’t know what to do about the situation. We suggested he make good and repaint with the elastomeric. He said he was not going to do that and if we did not make payment he would have his lawyer call us. I did some research online and found that there is a block-filling primer that should be used when painting with acrylic paint that will fill the pinholes and other voids for a smoother and more uniform finish. I copied the information and sent it to him by text. He responded that the article was false and that just because I find it on google doesn’t make it right. I went to the Sherwin Williams website and found there are several different primers available for use on stucco that are considered block-filling. I went ahead and paid him, but am not satisfied at all, especially because I know he should have used the block-filling primer that is available at Sherwin Williams, where he purchased the super paint. I emailed him a copy of the information I found on the Sherwin Williams website this morning in reply to invoice.

      Business Response

      Date: 12/11/2024

I am writing this response to my future customers. I am sorry this customer has had a bad experience. This is a home I would be proud to show as an example of my work to anyone. She was so impressed with our work after 1.5 weeks; and almost complete that she asked for me to do more work that she had earlier decided not to do. As I explained to her, this is the same process I have done on my own home. I make my living doing great work at a fair price and in turn customers tell their neighbors and the cycle continues for almost 36 years. I can go into great detail regarding her complaint but I can sum up by saying I offered her a Cadillac she requested something else and (let's call that a Ford) and then threatened to not pay for not getting a Cadillac. I take great pride in trying to over explain products and process to customers.  This is a case where either She or I didn't communicate completely.
