My elderly parents had spoke to some gentlemen that gave them a flyer from Arrowhead Asphalt. My parents were told they were getting asphalt on their entire driveway. They initially quoted $17,000, but after negotiating my father ending up paying $10,000 cash. Without having a contract in place or a receipt. When I found out the situation, I noticed they didn’t not receive asphalt they had received gravel on top tar. Nothing was sealed and only part of their driveway was done. My father told me that the “boss” told him that he would have to pay an additional $1,000 for them to complete it. So my mother told them to leave. This company took advantage of and elderly veteran and his wife, without providing what was requested and overcharging for what they received.

    Dear READER

I am writing to address the concerns raised regarding the asphalt project completed by Arrowhead Asphalt for your parents. We take all customer feedback seriously and want to clarify the facts surrounding this situation.

    1. **Payment Details**: The payment made for the project was not $10,000, but rather $3,000 in cash. We have no record of a $10,000 transaction, and we would appreciate if you could provide any invoice or documentation that supports this claim.

    2. **Project Scope**: The work performed was a chip seal application, which is a legitimate method for prolonging the life of existing asphalt. The original asphalt on the property was in poor condition, and we believe the solution provided was appropriate given the circumstances.

    3. **Communication and Agreement**: The initial contact for the project was your mother, who requested a quote. Your father then agreed to the work for the price of $3,000. We typically require payment upon completion of the job to ensure customer satisfaction, which was communicated to them.

    4. **Completion of Work**: After the initial job was completed, your parents requested additional work for $1,500. We returned to deliver materials as agreed, but the work was ultimately declined. As a result, we were left with the responsibility of cleaning up the rock that was delivered for this project.

    5. **Warranty**: I want to reiterate that the work performed comes with a three-year warranty, and we are committed to addressing any legitimate issues that may arise.

    6. **Presence of Family**: It’s noted that your daughter was present during the job, and we appreciate that family involvement. We strive to maintain open communication with our clients and their families throughout the process.

We are a licensed, bonded, and insured company (License #418311), and we take pride in our reputation. It’s important for us to resolve this misunderstanding amicably. If there is any additional information or documentation you can provide regarding the claimed payment or contract, we would be happy to review it.

Thank you for your attention to this matter. We hope to clarify any discrepancies and work towards a resolution.

    Sincerely,

    Dear BBB,

I am ******* ******, owner of Arrowhead Asphalt. I am reaching out regarding a reported order total of $10,000, which seems to stem from a miscommunication within the family involved.

Our records confirm that the actual amount for the work performed was $3,000, and additional work was canceled the following day. Attached is a screenshot of the invoice from the Joist app, which details all invoices and warranty work.

If the customer or family members have questions, please have them contact me directly at ###-###-#### or visit our website at ********************. The project still carries a warranty, but we need to clarify the payment discrepancy, as the daughter helped her parents pay the $3,000.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

    Best regards,

I am rejecting this response because:

The reply to my complaint is completely fictional. I am the daughter that went to their home to help them count out their money $10,000, not $3,000. As stated in my original complaint there was never any agreement/contract given or signed by my parents, and as far as your proof of “payment” you shared was obvious created after my initial complaint due to the fact that the name on the supposed payment states “****** household” which is my married name and NOT my maiden name which is MY parents actual last name. The reason I am filing this complaint because I was shocked that my parents were taken advantage of due to their age. $10,000 was what was given because I was the one who counted it, the reason my parents asked me to stop by at that time in the first place.  I do have pictures of the uncompleted,(not asphalt) gravel that was put on their property. But no agreement or receipt was ever shared with my parents.

    Regards,

    Subject: Response to Complaint #********

    Dear ********* ******,

Thank you for your response regarding the complaint. My name is **** ******, and I handle accounts payable for Arrowhead Asphalt. I appreciate your feedback and would like to clarify our position regarding the job performed.

The work completed was a chip seal, not a new asphalt driveway, which indeed would cost significantly more, around $20,000. Prior to any work being done, we provided paperwork and an invoice for $3,000, which we believe is accurate. We understand that there may have been some confusion regarding the funds, but we have no control over any additional amounts that may have been counted or misplaced by family members.

Regarding the name on the invoice, it is standard practice for us to refer to the household name associated with the service provided. We are more than willing to provide a new invoice if that would be helpful and to revisit the job site to address any concerns.

We can be reached if there is an issue of quality, but we will no longer engage in banter over this matter regarding the $10,000. We take these matters seriously and want to ensure that all parties are satisfied with the work done. However, we will only discuss the facts and paperwork that have been presented.

Thank you for your understanding, and we look forward to resolving this matter professionally.

    Best regards,

    Complaint: ********

We are rejecting this business’s response because it failed to address any of the key concerns we raised. At no point did this company provide an official invoice or receipt at the time of service. The document they later submitted to the BBB was created after the fact, contains multiple inaccuracies, and does not reflect the original agreement. In fact, they even offered to revise the receipt to better match their narrative—an offer that we found both dishonest and deeply concerning.

Our original agreement was for an asphalt driveway at a cost of $10,000, paid in cash. What was delivered was a chip and seal application, a lower-cost and lower-quality alternative, which they later claimed cost only $3,000. This was not what was agreed upon, and at no point was this change in service discussed or approved.

While my parents would not object to paying a fair price for the actual product received, this business misled and took advantage of elderly customers who trusted that the work being done was as promised. We understand that we may not receive financial restitution, but we strongly believe it is important to speak out against predatory and deceptive business practices—especially those targeting vulnerable individuals.

We will not be engaging with this business again and hope that this complaint serves as a warning to others.

    Regards,

They did a driveway for me on about 1 December for the amount of $5000. The surface started breaking up and there are some ruts developing. The gentleman came out, looked at it and said he would like to wait a month for the surface to harden and he would get in contact with me in 30 days. Never heard from him. I have tried to contact them by phone numerous times it goes to a machine and they never answer all I'm asking is for contact with the company and have him come out and look at the problems and see what we can do to rectify the situation. they have done several driveways in my area, and they all look to be intact, Different results in mine. All I'm asking is to open communication. Have someone come out look at the problem and discuss a resolution
    Thank you so much
