I entered into a lease agreement through a company called Vernance, LLC after visiting a pet store called Find a Pet near *******, *****, in June 2024. The transaction was presented as a simple financing option to purchase a dog (a Mini Aussie), with payments of $113.14 every two weeks. At no point did the salesperson or store clearly disclose that I was signing a lease-to-own contract or that the total cost would exceed $8,100 more than double the dogs original cash price of $3,788.75.The actual contract from Vernance, LLC was only shared electronically after the store processed the sale. The contract language is misleading and problematic: it refers to the return of the dog in good working order as if it were a piece of equipment, and it gives Vernance the right to withdraw funds from any of my bank accounts or credit cards.I have paid over $2,700 so far. I have formally revoked ACH and card authorizations and sent a dispute and cancellation demand letter. I have also filed a **** complaint (ID #*************** and am reporting this as a deceptive financial practice under Texas consumer laws.I am asking Vernance to terminate the lease, waive the remaining balance, and confirm closure of the account. I believe the lease is unconscionable, especially as it involves a live animal, and that the contract was never clearly explained. Other states have banned pet leasing and this companys practices should be reviewed closely. Please assist in resolving this matter. I am also requesting that Vernance not pursue collections or negatively report this account to credit agencies.
