I was contacted by ***** ****, representing Authors Branding, for my book series, currently self-published, to be acquired by ********************. There was a portion of upfront fees that I had to pay ($1700). I paid this over two payments, and they began the process. Over several months, they kept adding in different "needed" items, involving different people, etc, and the total bill came to over $21000. When nothing other than a 6-page summary was produced in a course of 8 months, and I had been hearing, "You'll be paid on your contract next week" for four months, I contacted ********* directly, a step I was told never to take, and they informed me that the person who signed my Offer letter (attached), is not an employee and there never was an offer. Before entering I to this, I had checked out the company name, individual names, etc and nothing fraudulent came up. They seemed to have everything in-line. I spoke to 8 different people, in various departments of this company that all knew the details they should. I am soon to lose my (actual) job, and I hadn't been looking for another because I had this "done-deal" coming through any day now. I have been turning down potentially legit offers by other companies all during 9 months I was dealing with this. There have been hours of phone conversations and texted correspondence going back to February from this. And I am left in a financial hole, I doubt I will ever recover from in my life as a result.
