On May 15, 2023, my wife and I were stranded in our vehicle on I-15 Southbound just past the Nev/Cal border. Our vehicle was towed by USA Towing from that pont back to an auto repair facility in *********. The charges for towing were in violation of USA Towing's tariffs established with the ****** ************************* Initally, the charge was quoted at $1,252.00. Several days later the company attempted to impose a "fuel surcharge" of an additional $112.53 which we did not agree to and haven't paid. The person at the company with whom we dealt with on both occasions was *********************. When I told him that I would not pay the "surcharge" he demanded to speak with my wife, who would not speak with him. He then threatened to file suit against us and put a lien on our vehicle. We believe that based upon our readings of the applicable tariffs, the maximum that should been charged for the tow was $682. My wife and I are both elderly people. My wife is 67 and I am 70. We believe ********************* was aware of our advanced age and attempted to take advantage of our ages, in addition to taking advantage of our precarious position of being stranded on the side of the freeway for 6 1/2 hours. We have filed a complaint with the ****** ************************ and also intend to dispute the entirety of the credit card charge through our credit card company's procedure for resolving disputes.
