Car came off the road on the 990 north. I called my roadside assistance. Tow truck driver did not identify himself and pulled my car out and then told me it would be $225. When I told him I didn’t have the money my car was towed. The next day the price was raised to $560 to get my car back.

    Business Response

To Whom It May Concern:This is a response to a complaint against Becker’s Towing; ID # ********.Becker’s Towing was called to recover the complainant’s vehicle from the 990. We are dispatched to remove/recover vehicles in a safe and efficient manor to ensure safety off all motorists and emergency service vehicles on the road, regardless of a motorist’s pending roadside assistance, as sometimes there can be long delays in that service. In a situation like this, if the vehicle is drivable, the motorist is responsible to pay for the service on site before leaving with their vehicle.  That cost would have been $225. Unfortunately, when a motorist is unable or unwilling to pay, it is our policy that the vehicle is taken back to our impound lot.  A service was rendered and our company must be payed. When a motorist can not or will not pay at the site, and the vehicle is towed to our impound lot, a number of other costs are incurred: towing, storage, a fee for an off-hours release from the lot, fuel service charge, and a fee for not leaving the key, which adds additional labor to the towing process.  As a courtesy, we did reduce the price of the winch out from $225 down to $175 given the additional charges.  An itemized bill was provided to the complainant, clearly showing how the price increased from the initial price at the scene. We certainly encourage motorists to submit their bill to their insurance or road side assistance company for reimbursement.
