On July 4, 2023 I was speaking to McAfee about extending my Anti-viral service, ********, when an engineer came on the line. He claimed I had been hacked, and he harassed me, took control of my computer, and badgered me until I agreed to pay $200.00 for 3 years of *************** services. I gave him my credit card to pay. Besides his urgent chatter, I became suspicious when he only provided (on plain paper) an acct # ******** and a spotty description of services--which did not match services of ******** described on McAfees website. He said "dont call ******, but only contact HIM" (*********************** *****************.) Then I received on Stavcomm (letterhead) an Invoice #****** dated 7/4/23 with description of services as Premium Package ver. **** *** *** *** *** * *** *** ** **** *** Neither document gave a Cancellation Policy (as required by statute CFR ***** for a legal sales contract), nor any info on who is to provide --what services.I feared calling him back and instead put a dispute on my *********** credit card, which deleted the $200 charge. StavComm responded to ****** with copies of the agreement I did signed online. And since I had not canceled the order with Stavcomm, ****** re-instated the $200 charge to me.On 8/18 I sent by USMail a formal Notice of Cancelation with my request for full Refund to the Stavcomm address. Per my tracking, Stavcomm received this 8/21. Since July 4 I have had no communications with Stavcomm. On a 8/28 call, ****** confirmed they received no money for this service, and that I had been scammed and encouraged me to contact BBB to help.Customer Answer

Stavcomm contacted me a couple of weeks ago after I clicked a McAfee pop-up stating my memory was at 23% and advising me to purchase software for $37.44 called McAfee ** Optimizer. They claimed they were affiliated with ****** and there was a problem with my computer--that was why I could not get the ** ********* to work. They said hackers were blocking my access. They charged me $300 to fix the problem and gave me a 5 year protection plan. I didn't know I was paying Stavcomm until I gave them my credit card number to purchase this plan through my Paypal account. All this time they had me believing I was dealing with ******. until Paypal billed me for Stavcomm, not McAfee. Their sales representative ********************* told me, and also sent me a receipt, stating their company is the support team for McAfee Products and Security. A *********************** representative told me ********************** is not associated with them. I called ********************* back to request a refund. He got irritated with me, hollered at me, and told me if I have any questions, call HIM, not ******. *********** has several companies working with them, and Stavcomm *** is one of them. Stavcomm promised they include in the $300 5-year plan, a refund of the $37.44 I paid for the new software; in addition to saying when my renewal comes up later this fall, I will not be charged for it. I am still waiting for the refund of $37.44. I've called them twice about it, and they keep telling me it will be **** days to receive it. This company is a scam. And when I told them so, they had the nerve to get an attitude. NEVER click on pop-*** or emails stating any company is part of your security. I advise you to go directly through the company. Since I have not received my $37.44 refund, I know when my renewal comes up this fall, I will still be billed by ******. This company comes in under fraudulent schemes. Beware of anything associated with Stavcomm.Initial Complaint

In December 2022 while searching for McAphee support on the web, I clicked on ***************************************** and eventually paid them $999.99 for a laptop PC and a 5+ year contract for McAphee antivirus software. They verbally misrepresented themselves as the "IT Department" for *******, with whom I have just confirmed that they have NO business relationship, and have NO knowledge of a 5-year contract for me. The website above has a McAphee partner badge which is a lie. Yesterday STAVCOMM phoned me to say that my identity had been breached, my PC was deeply infected with identity theft protection, and I was handed over to a "closer" to sell me another $1,499 7-year contract and that this money should be sent to: Computer Softech LLC, ************* ** right away. (I googled the address, it is an apartment complex, see the street view of ***********************). The seller insisted that I review my banking history while he waited "not watching" although I could clearly see screen sharing had not been disabled. No credit card was acceptable, it had to be a CHECK that they took a screen capture of after I wrote it. I actually stupidly MAILED the check, but immediately contacted the bank to block it and all transactions to that checking account while I go through the pain of changing all accounts and cards at two banks. This was 100% scam activity, I am positive. This is far from the first BBB complaint against these people, I am a fool for not checking before I dealt with them but they sounded so "friendly". NOT.Customer Answer

At this time, I have been contacted directly by Stavcomm Inc. regarding complaint ID ********, however my complaint has NOT been resolved because:
.. I have not received a refund for the 5-year McAfee contract they alleged I would receive along with my **.
I was called by someone allegedly from Stavcomm calling himself *********************, which he admits is not his real name. I understood him to say that their company had been impostured by some other criminals, and that the interaction I had where they wanted another **** dollars to fix my ** and protect me from Identity theft was not really from Stavcomm.
There is so little believable about them that I don't know whether they are liars or dupes. Either way...
I paid $999.99 for a $550 ** and a 5-year McAfee contract. the ** is OK. But the McAfee imposture was to my mind in bad faith and a misrepresentation of their association with McAfee. I believe they owe me 3 or 4 hundred dollars for the phony McAfee. Thank goodness for Geek Squad.
The clincher is the NEVER sent me a receipt for the transaction in the first place. I was so stupid dealing with them in the first place.
At this time I consider my identity and bank funds safe from them or from whomever else was doing the scamming, which is the main thing at this point. McAfee site says it best ... "Don't deal with any middlemen, deal with us direct", and they describe perfectly what Stavcomm did in a warning. I am now warned. Attached is the ***** they are in NO WAY associated with McAfee, which they did lie to me about.
In order for the BBB to appropriately process your response, you MUST answer the question above.
Sincerely,

This happened on ********** A company called Stavcomm scammed me for $199.83. And all other complaints about this company is the same as mine! I gave him a Pseudo credit account number for payment. But he went into my PayPal account, and I told him not to use my PayPal account. So, he took my credit card number and used that number in my PayPal account without my authorization. But I didn't know he used PayPal until the next day! He said he fixed the problem I had with my modem, and he did NOTHING. He ran freeware virus protection on my computer that anyone can get for free! I called my internet provider, and a person named **** told me, there is NO WAY he could have gotten into your modem without the Admin username or the Admin Password that's on the side of the modem. I did NOT give him that information. So, everybody that's complaining about this company Stavcomm have one thing in common, we all got scammed by this company! I did report this to ******, and they are aware of the situation. I can't believe this guy is so ******, like he's doing nothing wrong when I confronted him the next day!Customer Answer

At this time, my complaint, ID ******** regarding Stavcomm Inc. has been resolved. I did contact the seller, and he agreed to give me back 150 dollars of the 200 I spent. He did give me $150.00 and I just received it the other day. I would still be a bit skeptical to do business with this company... BUT at least he did give me a portion and I am satisfied.(By clicking "OK", your complaint will be closed as Resolved.)

On 10/11/22, I called McAfee computer protection company because I had an unauthorized entity trying to install software on my computer. A McAfee rep. got on my computer and fixed the situation and pitched a three-year plan for an upgrade for McAfee Total Protection for $300.00, with a fourth year bonus for free. When I agreed I was transferred to someone who was going to take my payment. Before that happened I asked if the man I was talking to would confirm he was with ****** which he did. The payment was then placed with Stavcomm, **** On 10/24/22, I received an email from ****** saying my subscription would expire soon and asked if I would like to renew. When I returned home from a trip I called McAfee and was told they had no relationship with Stavcomm. I then researched the company and found all the complaints very similar to mine. I immediately cancelled my credit card to avoid further charges like others experienced and called Stavcomm. On 10/29/22, I told them I was aware of their scam and that I was objecting to their charge to my credit card. I was told they would object to my actions but within minutes I received notice that I was given a refund from Stavcomm. It is now 11/01/22 and no refund has appeared on my credit card.Customer Answer

On March 25th, 2022, I contacted what I thought was ****** but was Stavcomm. The representative, *************************, told me that Stavcomm was affiliated with McAfee. Said my laptop was hacked and sold me a Diamond Package for $400. which was good for three years. On July 11th, 2022, I received a phone call from Stavcomm. Said they were calling to check on my computer. I was told my firewall was damaged and my wi-fi had been hacked. I was sold another protection package for $400 but this time it was good for 8 years. ****** said he would refund the $400 I paid in March. I called Stavcomm at the end of August, 2022 asking where my refund was. I was told a check had been mailed to me. ****** said he would check on it and call me back in two days but never did. I still have not received a refund nor has ****** called me back. I called McAfee and they are not in any way affiliated with Stavcomm. I would appreciate any help you can give me.Customer Answer

At this time, I have not been contacted by Stavcomm Inc. regarding complaint ID ********.Stavcomm has not returned my $400.00 nor have they made any attempt to contact me to resovle this issue. Stavcomm has scammed me out a total of $800.00. They used fear by telling me that my computer was hacked and that my firewall was damaged, offerered multi-year deals to make it sound good, and falsely claimed they were affiliated with a reputable company (McAfee).
