On 11/19/22 I went to Autozone to get a new battery. They ran a test and told me I needed a new alternator. I buy the alternator and ask if I can get it installed right away. They sent me to a mechanic in the parking lot who appeared to be employed/associated with Autozone. After installing the new alternator, he tells me I need a new battery as well. I buy the new battery and he installs that. After that installation he tells me it's $275 total for labor and refuses to let me leaving without paying him in cash. On 11/21/22 a "check charge system" message pops up on my dashboard. On 11/22/22 I'm making my way over to Autozone to get it fixed again and a few blocks away my car starts shutting down. The power steering stops working, check abs system, all sorts of flashing signals. Thankfully I was able to get it to the Autozone parking lot where the car died on arrival. After taking 5 different cabs around the Bronx to different Autozone's to get the correct part, I come back to the one where my car is at. When I get there the mechanic tells me it's gonna be another $250 to install the alternator again. When I tried to dispute this with him telling him it's the same part/job from the other day, his response was "we don't sell parts" referring to his mechanic business. After paying him again to fix the same problem so I wouldn't be stranded, the same "check charging system" message pops up on my dashboard again. Now my car is worse off than when I went to Autozone in the first place and the work done initially almost caused me to crash driving back to Autozone the second time. It seems that the mechanic is disguising himself as an Autozone associate and overcharging/mischarging customers in distress, and possibly giving kickbacks to actual Autozone employees so they can let him keep doing it. The mechanic's name is ***************************** and he also happens to be a registered lifetime *** offender.
