      Tonight on October 18, 2023 around 630pm I was in the Dunkirk store buying a few things & planned on buying gift cards. Let me tell you, If you plan on hiring “managers,” I would have hoped they would be trained in how to handle & conduct themselves. I was buying $ 1,500 in 3 gift cards, and they let me know $ 1,000 was the limit. Okay, that’s fine. However to be intrusive & ask things such as “what are you using them for?” I don’t find that to be any of your business. While I can understand fraud is prevalent, your questions are not “Fraud” questions. Your “young” managers need to be trained to be professional. I, of course, felt I needed to act on the defensive. I was paying in cash. I showed proper identification & all. That should have been sufficient. The only one that was nice was the service woman at the desk, an older woman who kindly explained how there is a limit, which I have no issue with. If you give a tone of acting, a “better than you” attitude will get you nowhere. & this was done in front of my two children. All your “young” managers were huddled around me & my children. I am buying them bedroom things & snow gear for the winter & like to use gift cards so I stay on budget as a single mom. However, I will NEVER purchase one there again. If anyone should be the manager, should be the older woman who handled me at the end & knew how to count money & chose to respect me instead of accusing me of fraud like my money wasn’t good enough. $ 1,000 might be a lot, but I read on your website you like to do gift cards in bulk; for charities & fundraisers. Well I may not be a charity or a fundraiser but I am a human & I will not be disrespected in front of my children for GIFT CARDS, & while I am sure I know how this will go, I hope this serves as a warning to others be careful when buying gift cards at tops. Especially if you are of a different race.

      Three days in a row now where there can machine says it’s full and it’s not and then instead of offering help they just stand there. I would like a complaint done on behalf of this issues

      I purchased a gift card at Tops in Amherst store #41 late one night. No one knew how to activate it including the manager on duty. He insisted takes 24 hours to activate (which is absurd). So I went in the next day it was the same manager. Without any provokation he spoke to me in a very demeaning and sarcastic way. He even rolled his eyes a few times. It felt like he was trying to excite me into making a scene and when it didnt work his treatment got worse. But he also could not activate the giftcard so he grabbed a new one off the shelf and took photos of it on his personal phone. At no point did I ever recieve an apology but instead was told that he went above and beyond to make me happy the night prior and presently. He then made me sign a copy of my original receipt from the night prior. His demeaner and actions creeped me out I not only used the gift card that was activated (it did not have a waiting period of 24 hours like he stated the night before) I also contacted customer service because not only were his actions unprofessional but you CANNOT photograph a customers gift card on your personal phone or AT ALL. Unfortunately no one responded to me.

      Tops in Fayetteville NY has been telling customers that purchased gift cards have expiration dates when according to Tops customer service, these cards have no expiration dates nor do they decline in value. They do not know how to activate or issue gift cards correctly, so it appears the card has no value or is expired. A gift card was purchased in July 2022 and they refused to honor it or offer any compensation.
      Nothing had been purchased prior to this so card should have had full $50 value. It was used within two months which is a prudent amount of time. It was embarrassing for the gift card recipient and Tops did nothing to help. They have profited from the gift card money. This was one of my worst experiences with customer service where neither the recipient or giver of the gift card were listened to.
