According to the scope of work, Ace Paving stated they would level the driveway after paving to ensure proper leveling of the driveway. As shown in the photos provided this was not the result. The driveway at the back door to the house is raised above the level of the door frame. this is unacceptable as it will cause flooding in my house. Did discuss removing the screen door. However NOT frame of house.

    Business Response

On the day I showed up to do an estimate, I explained to ******* that an overlay would effectively block the opening of her screen door.  Her existing, outward opening screen door was just a quarter inch from the old asphalt driveway.   It is our common practice to lay an inch and a half to 2 in of asphalt which we then compress down to about an inch and a quarter.  This addition of an inch and a quarter would effectively pave this door shut.    Because of this obvious issue with the level of her side door, it was recommended that, if she wanted a new driveway, that she will need to have the existing driveway removed.  This is not a service I provide nor would I recommend trying to pull up a concrete surface and try to replace it with asphalt.   The homeowner explained that she would have this taken care of.  I explained that while I'm not an expert in carpentry, It looked like she would need a custom-made door that was a little shorter than her existing door.   On the date of paving, she was there as we removed the outward opening screen door.  We placed a 2x4  in the area that would become the new threshold for the new shorter door and installed the driveway that properly pitches water away from the house and the door.  She was happy with the work and paid us in full. As I understand it, she purchased a new storm door and her handyman was unable to put it in.  I think she found it expensive or complicated to order a custom door and decided then to complain.    I have another customer with the same issue regarding door clearance. We are paving for him this week. He too understands the need to get a new custom sized door to install when we're gone.    I was intending to put his contractor in touch with her and have him do the same job twice.   I would hope this would make her happy but she has not responded to my attempts to reach out. I Do not know what role the better Business bureau plays here.   I hope that you can help keep open a line of communication between the homeowner and myself. It is very upsetting for me to get a bad review given how hard I work for my customers.   I'm open to your recommendations.
