I hired BMC in September to repair damages including roof and done framing amongst others done by previous contractor. Brandon said he could address all these issues and make things safe. He also recommended glass and insulation of the room so it could be used in the winter. During the construction, his employee moved a wall to the side of the house. In doing so, he enclosed two pipes which were venting in open air. Brandon told me that the pipes were just vents and were "perfectly safe" for me and my toddler. No walkthrough was done after the work was completed and I requested one. Things appeared good so I paid the the money owed. I noticed issues with the framing soon afterwards. his employee came back to address some of the issues mainly framing and left without speaking to me. I continued to call Brandon for a walkthrough and other things i was concerned about like the pipes. He brought up personal issues he was dealing. Meanwhile, the roof started falling apart, leaking, i found out through HVAC company that the pipes were blowing carbon monoxide from the furnace in the room and they should not have been enclosed. Very big health hazard that was fortunately addressed by the HVAC company. Brandon again said he would come but did not provide me with date and time per my request. I sought counsel and they reached out to Brandon. The latter told me that i was acting ridiculous. He also said that if i kept involving my attorney, he wouldn't show up to address the issues and would "take out the all the things that he did at no charge and leave it that way". Last week, I received a text at 8 am to inform me of a same morning visit from his employee. I was not home and asked to reschedule but no response. Over the weekend, i noticed more roof leakage. I sent Brandon videos of these. He has never responded to me. I have had to bring a roofing company urgently to address this because it is unclear if Brandon will ever come and i don't want further damage.Business Response

First, I need to start with saying that from the very start of that job everything was great me and her great Business relationship, everything went very smoothly. There was never an issue on the entire job now for the sticky stuff. I came onto that job with the understanding that the job was permitted through the town. The reason for this would be because I replaced another contractor that was doing work that was unbelievably shabby, that being said, you should know that this building was already standing structure when I walked onto the job I had nothing to do with any plumbing of any sort, HVAC of any sort, the roof was on watertight and shingled drip edge was in place walls were up ceiling with sheet rocked. Basically all that I did was fix some of the framing because of the spacing that the last contractor had put studs at wasn’t code. I moved a small adjacent to the existing one or I should say section of wall the previous contractor put the final post right in the middle of her view window at her kitchen sink. I only did that because I thought it would be better for her as I said, the roof was complete, but he never added soffits of any sort so I built some quick ladder framing and 16 on center installed it on the edges wrapped it shingle roof sections of those 16 inch racks and installed soffit. We also had to fix where the building meet the house. The previous contractor just made it a completely separate entity rather than fading. The porch roof into the existing home roof so we did that as well. The location where the leak is that she speaks of is in roofing that was already complete prior to my walking onto the job the HVAC system that is leaking carbon oxide that we were unaware of by the way I thought it was a dryer vent , nevertheless that was installed previous. I never touched the HVAC in the whole place. I upgraded the electrical and ran new Homerun lines back to electrical box with all new breakers installed all new outlets. All new GFI‘s all new wire contractor charged $2100 for electrical and I’m not kidding when I tell you he plugged the lead cord in to her basement drill the hole in the sidewall of the structure and ran a lead cord into the room and told her that it’s easier because she can just run the whole thing around the room, depending on where she sits to do work , not kidding. I can’t make this stuff up. I installed all new windows throughout using dual pane safety glass trimmed it with quarter round and caulked it off. She contracted me to do storm doors out of the kindness of my heart. I feel it would’ve been safer for her to have actual entry doors on three season Porch so I came out of my own pocket for 1700 actually almost $2000, and put new fire rated doors and doors on both entrances to the porch after that wrapped all of the inside wall below all the windows with new paneling insulated it all insulated the entire floor underneath the deck because they built the structure on her deck rather than actually on footings on The ground, and then I did vinyl flooring throughout. This was all of my work at that job. Everything was done correctly that I do there were things that were not done correctly previous to me coming onto the job and now ****** wants to hold me responsible for her mistakes and hiring her different contractors and have me cover the bill for it and I refuse to do that. I told her that I would come back and look at the roof. I did that when I realize that it wasn’t the location that I did work, I left. I went back a second time and looked at the pipes for the HVAC system when I realize that they were pipes that were protruding into the room previous to me and ever coming there. I told her she needed to contact an HVAC company. These are all things that are not looming over my shoulders the fact of the matter is that ****** hired a bad contractor prior to my being hired, she never had a permit filed. She built this structure. She got screwed on a bunch of money. I came in fixed what I could and now she wants me to be responsible for all the past problems and I will not, be part of that . BBB spoke to the business owner and the following was relayed: I told her that I would come and do a walkthrough to discuss her concerns with the work that I did. She needs to give me 2 days notice in order to be able to schedule this. Please have her contact me directly to schedule this. I will then go to her house and do a walkthrough with her to address her concerns. I will make any repairs necessary on the work that I did. Only the work that I did. I will not and cannot address work that previous contractors she had did. Please have her contact me directly to schedule this. Thank you.Customer Answer

BBB spoke to the business owner and the following was relayed: I called her and she gave me dates when she was available for me to come do a walk-thru to discuss the work that I did- not the work that any other contractors did prior to me. The dates she gave me were Feb. 1st or Feb. 2nd. So we scheduled. My wife went into the hospital unexpectedly on Feb. 1st. So I asked her if we can reschedule. Please have her call me if she would like to reschedule.Customer Answer

[i have been going back and forth with Brandon for many months now while watching my porch deteriorate due to leaking roof. There’s always a reason why he can’t come. I rearranged my schedule to accommodate him last time. He didn’t give me heads up that he couldn’t come until I reached out myself. He also never responded to my text when I asked how he wanted to proceed. Since then, I have already started working on repairs as the damages were expanding. This is my home. I would like refund per contact details I provided. I no longer want him to return or trust that he will come and address the damages appropriately ]

I needed a Structual wall taken down in my home. Brandon from BMC came to my home gave me a quote I was happy with. I agreed to have the work done. I paid him 50% of the 3400 dollar invoice in cash the day of signing the “contract” (9/23/24) He verbally assured the work would be started the week of (9/23/24) and accepted my $1,700.
The day of the contract signing I figured I had Brandon at my house he could check other work I needed completed totaling an additional $5,850. I waited a day to think about it and agreed to have him also do the other work for me. No contract or money was exchanged for that part of the work.
However today (9/25/24) I was informed by Brandon that I was “dragging my feet” and he accepted another customers contract and he would not be able to start the work originally agreed to (the Structual wall) until possibly October 7th. BUT! If I signed the contract for the additional work and put another 50% down ($2,925). He would start on Monday.
I told him that would not work for me, I have time restraints and I was counting on the Structual wall being removed the week of (9/23/24). He wants me to lay out all of this money ($4,625) without touching anything in my home. There is no material cost I have all the materials. Very shady business practice.
He is refusing to return my initial $1,700 deposit despite canceling only two days later with no work being completed or materials purchased.
His “contract” states nothing about deposits being non-refundable - only materials and or work completed which neither have been done or purchased.Customer Answer
