Our gas fireplace insert was installed by Dunrite approximately 9 years ago, with only one small issue in the beginning that was fixed under warranty. However, we recently had a problem with the fireplace not responding to the remote. We called for service and was told it would be $189 service charge. We agreed and a very nice repairman came to the house. The batteries inside were corroded and he cleaned and changed them. I asked if I could vacuum out the inside while he had it open and he said for another $20 he would give the entire insert a good cleaning. We agreed. There was another part that needed a new 9 volt battery which he said he didn't have with him. My husband ran out to ACE and purchased one for $10 and the repairman installed it. There was a problem with that part and he said we needed a new "box". He said it would cost $150 and we would have to pay another $189 service charge when he came back to install it!!! WHAT???? ANOTHER service charge?? If he had the part in his truck, he wouldn't have to come back! He called his boss to see if they had the part in stock and I got on the phone with the boss and told him ANOTHER service charge is not acceptable!! He bargained down to $90. I really had no choice but to finally accept that. When the repairman was late for the next scheduled time, I phoned the office and spoke to the secretary. She said he was running late and then I explained how wrong I thought it was to charge me another service charge. She said she would talk to her boss and call me back. She never did. My fireplace is now working fine, but it cost me dearly!! Who EVER heard of getting charged a second service charge just because the repairman didn't have the part in his truck. How many replaceable parts does an insert have?? They knew why they were coming here. There are many other ****************************** stores in the area. I will NEVER call them again.
