George, the owner of the “construction company”, was once a trusted friend to my girlfriend Liz. We had a big project at our house (addition w/new foundation and a new deck. We met with George and decided to give him the $84,000 job. After a few days on the job we noticed some mistakes, but not being that familiar with carpentry, we didn’t know what we were looking at. After some family members saw it and told us how bad and unsafe it was, we had to call code enforcement so they could do a stop work order so we could have get other contractors, home inspector, structural engineer and an architect look at it. They couldn’t believe how bad the work was, so we asked for a refund. We even had real contractors question George’s work in front of him at the job site and he had no good explanations of how bad it was. He had pressure treated wood for the top sill, unsupported beams that made the single sill plate snap and buckle, the concerns weren’t tied in, an unlevel poured floor that he did, the list goes on and on. The worst part was that he was supposed to tear out existing pad and put new footer and block down and never even dug down to even check to see what was there and that it couldn’t support a two story house on it. We fired him before he could ruin our entire house once everything settled. George said he would refund us $14000 if we provided a letter from an architect that says all of his work had to be ripped out and started over. We did provide that letter to him 3 weeks ago and he has not responded. I also texted him with no response. Our experience with George not only cost us $14000 (actually much more with the extra damage that he caused) to tear out and replace correctly, but we also experienced an unbelievable betrayal by a “friend” ripping you off and putting our entire family in danger by leaving the entire project unsupported. This was one of the worst experiences of my life. Do not hire George no matter what under any circumstances.
