On 9/26/22 I paid for a 52 week subscription to The Leader Herald (a daily newspaper) with check # **** for $202.80. This payment would extend the subscription to expire on 9/27/23. I have paid for my yearly subscription in the same manner for many years in the past. I recently received a bill in the mail stating my subscription expires on 7/6/23 which is 12 weeks short of the 52-week subscription I previously paid for. I contacted their billing office twice and was told both times that "The Leader Herald increased their prices and management said that the prices on their bills are not guaranteed". I asked to speak with a supervisor but was told they can't transfer me, but Brian Z****** (supervisor) would call me. It's been a week and no call. I'm not sure how they can bill you, cash your check as payment, and 9 months later change their prices. On their bill they clearly show different payment options, ex 4 weeks, 10 weeks, etc. See attachment. I believe they should fulfill their obligation to provide the daily newspaper or refund me the portion of the payment that they did not fulfill.

BBB spoke to Brian and the following was relayed:

Please have the customer provide his address so that I can properly review his account.  Once I am able to review his account, if something was guaranteed, we will certainly honor that.  Thank you.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

I previously contacted The Leader Herald on 2 different occasions and made no headway. I was told that a manager would contact me which never happened. The same individual that initially responded to you Brian ?? is the manager that was supposed to contact me. They obviously know my name and address because they sent me a bill. I believe they are just playing games. I'm done with them when my previously paid subscription expires in September. My only concern is that they will try and say that I owe for subscription time that I already paid.

    Regards, ****** *******

Last November 2021, I took a subscription to the Herald Leader Newspaper. I paid for a year in advance. During the year the Herald Leader failed to deliver the paper for 2 Sundays. The subscription was to expire on November 14, 2022. Here in the last few weeks, I was notified my subscription would expire on November 6, 2022. I called customer service and explained the situation in which they agreed. When I refused to renew the future subscription at a higher rate, they reverted to, my subscription would expire on November 6, 2022, and I would not receive the papers I am legally due. I am legally due the additional papers I lawfully paid for whether I renew or not.
